I have been gambling for 30 years and understand I am completely addicted.

I have had many rock bottoms, losing my accommodation, losing job, going to prison, but nothing stops me gambling.

Going to keep this diary and make a genuine attempt to stop.  Have over twenty accounts and self excluded from all of them.

My main gambling is Horse Racing and Football, the pain I have caused my self is horrendous and feel for anyone else with this horrible illness

Welcome!

This whole long journey starts and ends with you. All your decisions starts and ends with you and all your responsibilities start and end with you.

You gamble because you know what you will get when you do it. Doing things differently is stepping  out of your comfort zone.

All change starts and ends with you.

we are all responsible for ourselves. This forum is a sanctuary. You will find good advice here.

I wish you well

Best

C

@c43h  Thanks for your advice, I am going to engage with this forum and attempt to improve myself and help others, gambling is such a waste of time and really sucks the life out of you.

Hello, I have just been found out with my gambling addiction and have reaped so much debt and told so many lies to people to obtain money to gamble with. It was the worst feeling being found out and could have lost everything. I have decided today is day 1and have self excluded from all sites. We all get that 'buzz' from gambling and without us knowing eats away at us bit by bit. The problem being we look for that big win to say that's why I do it and continue with that cycle. Well done on making that first step, I am in the same boat as you and determined not to let gambling ruin me. Good luck

@cantelo85  thanks for your advice   I think the irony is we carry on gambling to escape the problems that gambling has caused.  The lack of progress and being demotivated are symptoms of gambling.

Going to try and focus on other things and feel part of the things I am doing.  Last week I took my son football training and in an hour sat gambling £400 away.  It is just unimaginative to normal people who are present and focusing on simple things.

I think as gamblers we feel we need to escape the day to day feelings and this is something I need to address.

Good  luck in your recovery.

@gambling_toad Thanks for your kind words mate.  Going to give it a real go this time, have stopped before for over a year and was so much happier.  I need to do it as it is only through luck that I am keeping a float, have got people who rely on me and I am so reckless.  I think we make life so difficult, when it can be very simple and rewarding.

All the best in your recovery.

Yes it's a horrendous habit, and feel to escape it you just need one big win. I am utterly ashamed of myself but it became the norm to gamble at every opportunity.

I wish you luck on your journey and for yourself put it out there. When everyone found out with me it was the worst time but a massive relief I don't need to hide it anymore.

@cantelo85  You really have to want to stop, I think when you start to care about yourself it motivates you to stop the pain, gambling is just self harm.  Think we just have to take it one day at a time and not get sucked back in.
