Hello I’m new to this site and forum. Today I realised I need help with my gambling problem. I keep my gambling secret from my family, I spend what I can afford and sometimes I find I have gambled and have no memory of doing so until I get the email from Paypal informing me of deposits made. That I find really scary!

I only gamble using my iPad this keeps it secret. I only gamble after 8 pm the urge seems to hit me then,it’s like a part of my brain is no longer me? A big fat gremlin takes over!

If I am on holiday I’m fine. Please I don’t want to gamble any more .any advice would be so welcome

Best regards

Well done on admitting you have a problem as that is the first and most important step in recovery. First thing to realise is that any form of gambling has to stop if you are to recover fully. This is not easy to do as most of us have conditioned ourselves to gambling as we spent so much time doing it, this is why you were getting urges once it was 8pm, you will still get these urges and it will take time and effort to overcome them.

One of the key things that any recovering addict needs is support. I would strongly advice coming out to your family about this issue, as lies nad deception are the life blood of this addiciton. Once people close to us know they can help us and they act as a barrier also. GA meetings are also recommended, there you will meet other complsive gmabler on the same path as yourself, some will be further along that path and will be able to give good advice to thelp you. You will get a lot out of those meetings if your are completly honest. Honesty is the key to this. Good luck

Gamstop is the first port of call. It'll block you from online gambling. Use the 5 year option.

Then move your finances to a bank that blocks gambling transaction, even with paypal.

3rd is when you get the urge to gamble, go to this forum https://www.gamcare.org.uk/forums/family-friends

and read the damage it causes. It'll fortify you to NOT gamble.

Good luck
