Hi, I'm jamie and have recently started gambling again, why? And that's the question that gets to me the most, I got a new job and it's probably one of the most stressful jobs I've had and it just changed my mind set, 2 years without gambling and then the little devil says 'need more money, no problem, go and win some' £5000 later and I've realised the mistake I've made and starting to make progress. I've self excluded in my area with a company called moses so all betting shops are a no, I've got a gamban app on my phone that costs £2.49 a month, 49p less than a spin in the bookies! Financially I'm crippled but there is nothing I can do about that really, it's just the selfish addiction that I have. Being low because of over situations makes me want to gamble, to get that release, that happy place I think it is at the time, but in reality it makes it worse for me and now I'm at the end of my Tether and can't even afford the on coming out goings, but that's my fault and my mistake, no one else's, if there is a lesson learnt from any of this, it is to never make that first bet!Â
Well you have eliminated betting shops with Moses and online gambling with gamban so that means you are now doing what is right. At first it may seem that these extreme measures are limiting your freedom, but in actuality they are freeing you from further torment. Look to what you have done and feel proud to be on the right track. One of the hardest things for me when I had to make the decision to seek treatment and put the financial blocks/controls in place was admitting that I had made a mistake. I think it is human nature to be reluctant to admit you made a mistake and it is kind of sad to give up something that did sometimes give you pleasure but it something that just needs to be done. Now it is time to explore what life has to offer without gambling. There are many things that can bring one happiness and joy, it is a matter of exploring and finding them.Â
