having blown the last of my savings on the FOBT's on line I have to stop. Through luck more than judgment I have no debts and money in my current account to see me through the month but the hard earned money I had stashed away is all gone Barr £10. That's appropriately £5k to 6k in 2 years.... Yes it's taken me that long to admit I have an uncontrollable problem. Today is the day I draw my line in the sand and rebuild a life Gamble free. There is no way I can win because I cannot stop. The money has gone and the sick feeling along with the self pity and loathing will ease with time I'm sure. Wish me luck guys and girls as I do you. We can beat this, there is always a choice. My journey starts now 🙂

Hi,

Congratulations on your decision. What plans, blocks, barriers have you put in place to continue stopping.

Best wishes

Way to go Newey! I think we are ready to admit we have a problem when we`ve had enough....... I half knew I had a problem after 1.5 months of excessive scratchie madness, but didn`t want to admit, and thought I can reverse it, I can be smarter, I will win the money back.....as you said there`s no win because we won`t stop. Good luck and keep on posting!

In exactly the same position as you Newey and today is the day I am making a change too!! make sure you stay online with these forums, reading people's success stories and advice they offer really is going too help, I sometimes find myself locked in a dark room thinking their is nobody too talk to about this, becasue i am to ashamed to tell my family and friends about my problem, but here, there is always someone willing to talk too. together we can do it. Good luck

Have had to reset the counter today as I spent an hour or so on line 🙁

Not gonna lie, it was a buzz and I'm feeling guilty that I let this get the better of me. The only plus is that I actually won and left the site well up. As soon as it cleans my account it will be going into the savings account to get me back to where I was before I started this madness a few months ago. Just goes to show that you can never let your guard down with this or it will bite you right back and pull you back in. It would of been just as easy to stay on line a gamble the whole lot away so got to be happy that I managed to walk away. I shall give this 100% effort to stay clean. The account is closed and the blockers in place. I'm looking forward to next month as my account looks like a train wreck and at least I won't have to look at it every time I log on. So today I start again. Upset with myself and very luck indeed that I walk away with something and not nothing.

Keep going, even if you don't always get a reply you can be assured people here are willing you on every step of the way.

I would consider setting up a diary on here, which of course can be more than just about gambling. Although quite often it's gambling related, but hopefully more about how you did something or are doing something to avoid the gambling on a daily basis.

It's very common to fail several times during recovery, so always best to not dwell on it and just pick yourself up and go again.

I went about 10 months at first then failed, but if it's a small blip, it's still possible that the money saved in a long period will far outweigh the blip.

I always think it's a good idea to set reasonable and achievable goals, starting with 1 day at a time for the first week, then gradually upping it to half weeks, then turning to weeks and then a month at a time.

It's certainly not easy, urges can happen at any time and it's a case of having strategies in place when they strike.

Good luck.

Cheers for the drop in Steve 🙂 the diary is set up. Day 4 of my journey and feeling good. My demons returned after about 10 years so don't ever let your guard down. CG's can't just have a flutter and walk away so we have to find other things to occupy ourselves with that don't destroy you and the ones you love.

Staying strong and focused
