I'm not sure what to say, I guess Hello and I just want to share because I have a problem obviously.

I started gambling I guess 3 years ago... I had a huge win on an acculumator just mucking about with friends. Harmless at first eh that's how it always starts. One day I went on slots and then bang from there my life has become a tornado of negativity. It has become progressively worse and has affected every facet of my life. I have tried GA meetings.. I have tried one on one counselling all to no avail. I'm really at the point in my life i feel desperately alone and I'm directionless. I have not much help from family and it has got to the stage where I have started to self harm as I need an escape. Any money I get goes to slots and I have tried putting blocks but I always find a way. But right now as I'm about to submit this I feel some sense of relief. ButiIn this last week I blew nearly £8000 that I had saved so that's just disgusting. I really don't know honestly I'm just lost and need some help as what ive tried so far hasnt worked.

Thanks

Hello Render194

Thank you for making the decision to post and share how you are feeling.

I can hear that you are finding things very difficult at the moment and that you are feeling desperate and directionless.

Sometimes things can feel overwhelming when you do not feel there is a way out. You mention self harming as a means of escape which causes me some concerns.

Please obtain medical attention for any injuries, and talk with your GP about local NHS support to help you manage your feelings and any impulses you may experience to self-harm. Here is an NHS webpage about self-harm: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/self-injury/Pages/Introduction.aspx and here is another NHS webpage about ways to get help: https://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Self-injury/Pages/Treatment.aspx

The Samaritans freephone helpline 116 123 is available 24 hours a day, if you'd like someone to listen to you talk about how you're feeling; some people find that expressing their thoughts and feelings in words to an attentive listener can reduce the intensity of their distress. You can see more about the Samaritans here: https://www.samaritans.org/how-we-can-help-you/contact-us

Please do feel welcome to call us on our freephone 0808 8020 133. On the National Gambling Helpline, you can talk with our advisers about your gambling problem. We can also look to see what other types of support might be useful for you.

Take care,

Cade

Hi render I'm wife of a compulsive gambler so my view is from the other side. You are in need of real life support, call gamcare and talk to someone, they will listen and offer some great advice. You need to put blocks in place to stop you gambling. Download software to gadgets, self exclude, hand over finances to someone close. Unfortunately it's very difficult to do this alone. I go to gamanon meetings and yes you hear what you don't want to, you're not like them. But reality is they are great support and sometimes you need to keep going even if you are uncomfortable. You've made the first step by coming here and admitting the problem. If you really want to stop you will take all the help there is. This is progressive and it never gets better, debts get bigger and you feel worse. Maybe also consider going to your gp to talk about how you're feeling. You have to make things better, take action. Put up as many barriers as you can. Keep posting and reading other stories. This is in your hands to help yourself, no one can do it for you. Good luck!
