Hi everyone,

In my area there is 1 GA meeting a week and ive been put off going to it for so long now. I really want to go to it tomorrow but what is it like? What do you do? What should you expect to happen also is there a leader or host at the session or just people chatting amongst themselves?

If you can answer these questions that would be great 🙂

Chris

Hi GA1

GA is a fellowship of people who have one aim in common, to stop gambling and develop a better way of life. There will be a chairman who will run the meeting. He / she will have been clean for a minimum of 90 days. There are various types of meetings, so I cannot tell you which one yours is. At some stage however, everyone is allowed to 'share'. This is generally about their gambling, how they are feeling, problems they are having etc.

Remember, that they all have, or had gambling problems. They are just like you. You will be able to relate to them just as they will be able to relate to you. If you don't want to talk, you don't have to. Some of our new members have taken a month or so before they feel comfortable enough to 'open up'. With others, they just want to 'get it all out'.

You'll be made to feel welcome, nothing to fear.

Take care

Hi GamblingAddict1,

I went to my second one yesterday, I think it is great...... You are amongst people who understand you, you can relate to part of their problems and behaviour and vice versa- no judgment whatsoever, just a room full of people who`ve all been affected my CG.... Lots of stories, some real tragedies out there, but it helped me realize how far can one go (you never know where your addiction would lead, as my partner pointed it out to me I wouldn`t have thought 4 months ago I would spend 5000 GBP and I did, so god knows what could happen in a year, or 5 years?) which you would say I would never go that far....but maybe you would. So it is important to hear others`stories, and eventually to share yours, none is worse that the other from the addiction point of you..... So don`t be scared, you only have to share if you feel like it, just go and be open to listening.... Good luck

Hi,

I've been attending weekly for 17 months so it works for me as I haven't had a bet and have improved all aspects of my life.

It doesn't work for everyone but will work if you embrace it, work the programme and relish the journey.
