hello I joined a few years ago and wish I hadn’t run away because I’m in a worse place now. I feel such an idiot and a pathetic excuse I don’t feel I can face my husband this time and I don’t know how to get through this anymore, I’ve promised him so many times. I don’t deserve anything but contempt I am a horrible horrible person
I have registered on Gam-stop , has anyone heard of the Gordon moody site?
Please is anyone here?
Hi Clarabow and welcome back to the forum.
Well done for realising your problem and for registering on Gamstop. Your recovery starts here and now.
You’re not a horrible person because of this. You’ve been trapped into this addiction like many of us on this forum.
The key is breaking the cycle and finding ways to manage this addiction.
It’s important to remain calm and to use this forum to your advantage.
Aside from registering with Gamstop, what other blocks do you have in place?
What did you gamble on mostly?
Dan
Hi, I was a resident of Gordon Moody just over a year ago, it was a 14 week residential placement but is just for males. I know they do a placement for women over a few weekends and some midweek days. If you are serious about beating this addicition and learning the tools to cope I would seriously consider getting in touch with them. They saved my life
Thank you Dan and Daz for your replies, it means such a lot to me, today has been hellish but I am determined now I feel I have taken those first few steps.
Thank you
I’ve changed my user name because I want to break free from self sabotage
Hi Breakingfree,
Well done for coming back on here, you’ve done the right thing.
I was the same. I used to come on this forum a good few years ago. I can’t even remember my old username and email address. However, only now do I realise that back then I wasn’t fully committed and serious about giving up for good.
I believe that is the key to breaking the cycle. Truly wanting to give up gambling for good. If you find yourself always self excluding for max term, that is an indicator that you are. Beforehand I was always leaving the door ajar to a future ‘harmless flutter’. Of course, for us GAs there is no such thing.
Well done on doing the GAMSTOP thing, that is a huge step in the right direction. I’ve been doing a diary and it has been such a massive help for me as well.
Forget about the past, it’s done. Yes there will be some harsh realities, some consequences of your gambling but dealing with them (which will be there regardless) are a thousand times easier when you are not digging yourself in deeper at the same time by continuing to gamble.
Your are not pathetic or an idiot. Our brains are just wired up a little differently to others. We are just more vulnerable. The more awareness you can accrue the easier (although it’s not ‘easy’) it is to beat the hellish addiction.
Great steps in the right direction today. Best of luck. Do keep posting and keep strong!
