Can I ask when you had your three weeks off, what did you do differently or did you make any changes?

Chris.

It's called dopamine. It is 10-50 times higher than a nonaddicted person. When you play your focus is entirely on keeping that high going. Your focus will not come of it (the game) till the fuel ( money) is gone and the engine can't run anymore. There are lab rats who have stopped eating just to keep the high going.  The word Sandwich came from a gambling Lord who played so much cards that he did not eat properly so he invented the sandwich so he could play for longer. There are more stories like this but you want to know why. It is being focused on what you do till you wake up or snap out of the self trance you put yourself into. So it is not a unique thing in any way. You need to stop before you start not wonder about it when you are finished. Get gamblockers in place and start to reach out and get the help you need. The addiction maths is this. You need more of the same to get on with the high so you will just keep doing this for longer and longer or you can choose to do something completely different. The ball is on the field. You can run right or left. Everyone else is just a spectator.

Choose the right thing for you and make the change now. You can do it.

Best

C

Morning,

What I did different in those 3 weeks was. I started swimming at half 6 on a morning I read a book called unf”k your self which really helped. I felt good I was eating properly exercising. Then went on holiday to Devon few week ago and it’s all stopped now just keep doing it every day now before I only did it once or twice a week with massive losses but it’s fully taken over again now.

I put blocks in place but there so simple to take off need to just not do that first spin!

thanks for your help and motivation C I need this very much. Wow very interesting facts! I love facts like these.

No worries. Have been exactly where you are. My life's journey has been looking for solutions to this. It is in the change that we make.

Take the metaphor about the bear who eats berries to him known as the  "sweet spots" He wonders to them year in and year out to the exact spots to eat berries. Now, what happens when goes to his absolute favorite spot and it has just been invaded by a mountain lion family? His brain goes "Danger, Danger" and a new neural pathway has been written so his thoughts about that wonderful place have changed and it is time to find a new place to gather berries. Put that into context with gambling. If your brain produced a new neural pathway towards gambling you would not think about your gambling in the same way ever again.  And my respect to Brand and unfk yourself. The real way to changing a behavior is that new neural pathway so you can look at the problem differently. At least you get your therapy time down to a minimum so you can do something else with your time.

It can be found if you know where to look.

Best

C

Can I suggest making those changes again. I know it’s easy for me to sit here but hoping you’ll beat this addiction won’t work. Eating well and exercise is great for your mind but can you try a GA meeting or call the advisors on here. Being able to talk about your problem and how you feel is a great help in stopping. Long term stopping involves a change of character and working on yourself but initially you need some time under your belt.
Sometimes we can’t gamble because we just don’t have the money, and as soon as we do off we go again, living the dream life that gambling will fix all of our problems.

I wish you well though.

Chris.

Hey!

thanks for the reply honestly your both so helpful! I have actually been having couciling most of this year threw these guys. Back to the swimming tomorrow after a day at the fair with my kids I was exhausted today to face it before work.

I have added Gamstop now on hope that putting every email and every number I had into this it will stop me too! I don’t even like it I hate it I haven’t done it since Saturday but I used all my money so there is no way to do it even if I wanted to plus it’s only ever when I have a drink I gamble I noticed that I was genuinely just pouring a glass of wine to gamble and drink wasn’t so much the issue I thought it was.

I’ll let you know how I get on thanks so much

all the best 🙂
