Hi,

So I managed to stop gambling and admit it to everyone I have a problem at the start of January. I had 69 days under my belt but on thursday something urged me to go back, I put £20 on, got it up to £200 then lost it again obviously. Friday I put another £20 on, of course lost it and today lost £50.

Im already in £7,000 in debt and am struggling to pay this off. Most of my wages go on loan repayments as it is, I've been working extra hours at work to help and it's been going well. After losing that £90 though I feel so low all my extra hours are pointless if im going to go and waste it on gambling.

Im scared it will happen again. Now Im going to have to struggle to scrape a bit of money toghter to go out fo my friends birthday, which before would have been easily covered. I know it's not the end of the world but I don't trust myself. Now I've lost it, I have a feeling Im going to chase it. Im excluded from all the sites and everything, it doesn't help, theres ways around that. I just wish this weekend never happened.

Im just dissapointed in myself for doing it. Almost 70 days without a bet. I know in a week ill be over this and hopefully back on track. It's just that im worried about how I will cope this week while im feeling like this.

Anyway I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Hi TheMorningRain

Well done for sharing your recent experience, you will receive many supportive comments I'm sure.

I can understand your frustration that you gambled again after 69 days but I just wanted to say learn from it and don't beat yourself up. Ask what events led up to the relapse and ask yourself what were the excuses you gave yourself to gamble again and dispute them. Your commitment isn't broken and you can renew your resolve.

This does not have to be an experience without worth, it can be a powerful learning experience.

It does not mean that you will repeat this behaviour in the future. Forgive yourself, learn from it and remember that a commitment applies to what we plan for the future.

I'm not sure if you gamble online but if you do consider installing software which will block your access to online gambling sites so that you are not tempted to open new accounts.

We recommend Gamblock http://www.gamblock.com and Betfilter http://www.betfilter.com but there are others.

Please feel welcome to talk things through with a GamCare adviser on 0808 8020 133 or on our netline. The advisers can provide emotional support and helpful information, as well as facilitate referrals to one to one counselling appointments if you’d like to access that service too.

Best wishes

s**t happens morning rain.

During most journeys the odd bumps has to be endured. You've done brilliantly to have posted 69 days "clean". The feelings you are experiencing will fade as you resume your journey. Don't give up. You can come back stronger than ever. One day at a time now.

Take Care.

69 days without gambling can never be 69 days ruined. You've had a blip, the vast majority of people trying to stop will have the same. Think about how you can stop it happening again next time rather than beating yourself up over it.

Congratulate yourself instead on all those days u achieved and how many more will follow. U had a blip but not a major one. Uv done so well in realising quickly how easy it is to fall back into the trap. I had almost a year and a half gamble free then slowly slid back into compulsive gambling after a few bets that went wrong. Ur better than me, youve realised quickly nd this is where it stops. Dust yourself down and get back on with it! X
