If you gamble online and are having problems you MUST sign up for Gamstop. It is an absolute godsend. I suspect its saved me thousands of pounds already since starting it in April and I would urge anyone to join up. Never had a problem offline, i.e bookies etc thankfully. Every UK Casino will have to be on it by the end of the year, every casino I used is already on it. This should have been in place years ago.

Completely agree, wish it existed years ago.

Gamban was completely ineffective for me unfortunately, found ways to disable it on my phone pretty easily.

Gamstop however is fantastic and its now near-impossible for me to bet online.

Agree 100%

Every problem gambler should sign up, and sign up for 5 years.

I totally agree with you guys, but what if you decide to go down the road of destruction and do it again? Then you just can buy another used laptop or phone..? This is what stops me from buying gamblock. Am I right? This is possible, right?

You are referring to software, all of which can be circumvented as you suggest.

We are talking about Gamstop.co.uk - a nationwide self-exclusion scheme from Gambling websites in the UK. They currently have most websites but by the end of the year will have them all on the scheme.

You give them your name, address etc and as long as that info is accurate, you will be proactively excluded from all online gambling.

Previously if you had self-excluded from 1 site or even most sites, there was always another you could use. Now that won't be possible. It's a game-changer.

Gamstop can help but its not the be all and end all. Make sure you use other blockers as well. Too way ways to get around it.

Seriously? That is absolutely brilliant. This will work worldwide, right? If this is true, the casinos will suffer. That would be a dream come true for me. I would pay to see the casinos shut down and to make it illegal. Where can I find this so they block my ID for signing up on sites, please?

Hello,

I want to register Gamstop now, but is it effecting credit score?

I am receiving lots of text message from online casinos, do you think it will block also their communications with me? or do I have to login one by one and close it 🙁 any idea?

Edit: I registered anyway, hope it will work.

1) It doesnt affect credit score.

2) The intention is that it covers all sites regulated by the UK gambling commision - this should cover plenty of non UK sites that market to gamblers in the UK

3) It covers a huge number of sites already. Many that I hadnt even heard of - and I'm a degenerate of 35 years, and bet on line for almost half of those years.

4) It should stop unwanted marketing messages (emails & text). And largely it does. However if it doesn't you should contact gamstop, the advertising standards or telephone preference service (mobiles). It is useful to register your mobile with the Telephone preference service (www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps) as your details will have been sold to plenty of other parties.

5) If you get unwanted comms, you should usnsubscribe or block the text number.

6) It won't work for unregulated sites perhaps set up in Moldova or Dutch Antillies.

I have self excluded from individual sites in the past for 6 months. I have to wonder, how serious was I about quitting for good if I excluded (or 'cooled off) for relatively short time.

Registering is a no brainer if you are serious - you still have to work at your recovery youself, but for me it has helped so far cut out those lapses that start with a £20 bet and spiral into a month of losses of thousands and the self loathing that comes with it.

I registered for 5 years, and when I get to 6 months I will celebrate by contacting them and asking them to start the 5 year clock ticking anew.

I think it's a very good start to recovery. I've tried some sites and It works well.
