Hi,

I went through a lucky streak last week and then unfortunately a big loss, probably not major for a lot of people but I am a single parent and out of work so a few hundred is a lot to me.

I've spent my limit on the pay by mobile casinos ( hate them!) And now my mobile is cut off until I can pay back at least half, which I can do in a few days but doesnt leave me with much to live on. I'm so, so annoyed at myself. I suffer with anxiety/ depression and have barely any family or friends. Just want to feel better and get past it. I know I should do the gamban but I just haven't done it yet. I keep thinking I'll win some back and then stop.

The  crazy thing is, I first joined this site to try and help my mother with her gambling addiction ( at a time when it wasnt a problem for me) and now I am just as bad as she was with it.

Hi julie the only way to start feeling better is to start your recovery, well done for joining.

I use to keep thinking next time i get paid its fine ill gamble and win some money back to pay off debts..but you end up making it escalate and escalate untill you have nothing each month. Its not possible to win then stop. You have to sadly face the loss get financial support where you can to get through the move from citizens advice or debt agencies, food bank etc.

Chassing losses is where lots of us went wrong and ended up in deeper and deeper trouble. If it was easy to win back losses none of us would need this site or help.

Read around the forum, theres also the gamchange course online which gamcare can refer you this can change your thinking around gambling such as where you convince yourself theres a chance to win money back.

My biggest first step after joining this site was going on to the gamstop website and you can sign up to self exclude from all uk gambling sites this has helped my recovery.

Hope you find the support you need to start your gamble free journey

Lou xx

Hi julie237 and welcome.

You may not fully realise it now but I promise you two things. You are better than gambling and your life will improve when you are free from gambling.

It takes time to heal from this addiction but you should start to feel a surge of pride that you are following our advice and taking the measures to stop gambling.

Gambling is a drug addiction. It was never the answer to your anxiety and depresssion. It was never the answer to any worries about money The answers are indeed within you.

Gambling is a mugs game...a tax on hope and despair. Dont give them another penny of your money.

Its not a get it back later scheme and you have been ignoring the odds. You need to sit down with a non gambler and start doing the exercises of trying to explain it. It makes no sense. Youve been ignoring the odds and someone needs to show you what a pea under one of a thousand cups looks like until it bores you silly...heck you would be fleeced all day long with ten cups or three so you need to understand slot and casino odds.

Its not good that your mother gambles so you need to keep that situation separate from your own...no lending or borrowing between you and you should suggest your mother also seeks help and fast.

Slot/online machines are the crystal meth of gambling. Evil money grabbers and you need to stop now.

Please put Gamban on and try and find a non gambler you love and trust to talk it through.

You will heal as you dont need gambling in your life. Like millions of others you were vulnerable to it so there is no shame in admitting it got to you and seeking help.

Life gets stressful and many of us experience anxiety and depression. However there are ways to think more positively about life and there is no shame in talking it through

Best wishes from everyone on the forum

Can only agree with the above comments. The peace comes when the gambling stops. The angst and the merry-go-round of feelings and worries are dampened only for a second when you dream around about wins that may or may not come but they do however enhance your bad feelings when your gambling streak is over. That is serotonin. It is just chemistry really. Decide to Stop and see how fast change comes. There are no other good alternatives. Stopping is the only one.

Your situation seems familiar too mine was I’m three weeks in and it’s not an easy process but it’s something that will make you feel a million times better. Putting Gamban in place is honestly the best option right now it’s literally stops you gambling but only you can put that in to place you don’t want to lose anymore there’s only one winner in this game and that’s the casinos there a business at the end of the day and they have to make there profit.

I wish you all the best with your recovery 🙂
