Another week has gone by, walked 25 killometres so divided by the six days walked 4 a day so pretty good.

Diet not going very well but not put on any weight.

Got my work review next week so will keep posted on that next week.

Spurs won today and liverpool lost so that's good, four points behind them now.  Everton in the cup wednesday.  Then city away.

I was saying in chat something, a plan, a tool, that can help to overcome gambling thoughts.....  We will allways think of gambling when adverts come a long or we walk past a bookie or casino or friends chat about it.... It's everywere ... The trick is to slowly reduce the amount of time you entertain the idea of gambling again..... At the start it would take me half an hour and would be painful and i would sometimes act on the idea.... That took me three years on here to reduce....Then i had a year and a half of gambling in a controlled way.....i spent 144 pounds on it but i still was not succeeding i was having thoughts then acting on them.... Now i then turned a corner and managed to stop completely.... |When the adverts come on, i walked past a bookie or friends talked about a poker game.... it would be super hard but i said no....Then over the months the tie it took to get to that no decision took less time... I trained my mind that the outcome of the thought would be a no so why think about it any longer.

Advertising will allways be here untill gambling is illegal.....And that will take a while!!!!!

This recovery in essence takes time..... we have gambled for a while and our minds will take a while to realise its not what we want to do? if thats right

Thats true adam..took me having no way to pay bills or food etc that made me realise its not what i want to do..

Problem is sometimes i want to for the wrong reasons.but my brain knows its wrong too.

Like what you said in chat about waiting because the urge will ease off...peer aid mod called it surfing the urge.

Lou xx

P.s Roch im enjoying sending banter to my dad that is liverpool supporter

Hi Adam,

You're right, the less we give in to gambling thoughts the easier it gets. Lots of good advice on here but I think it's safe to say you're also on your way to to give advice & help to others. It's not just your achievements that are amazing, but your awareness of trigger points & how to deal with them. Well done fella.

Al

Great to know things are really moving for you Adam, literally for you in May.

Your focus is tremendous. The fences , as you say, are expensive but you're getting quality.  How satisfying it will be that when you want something that's top drawer, you're going to get it.

One day at a time, what a terrific way to live, to be. Really good to read ?

Hi Adam,

Sounds like things are going well for both of us so onwards & upwards. Had a scan on 27th January, followed by a phone call from oncologist 2nd Feb & he told me they seldom use the word CURED, but said he can tell me cancer's in remission. No stress, no gambling & enjoying life and everything it has to offer.

Sincere Best Wishes

Al

Plan of action for this year:

Shoulder: Get my shoulder better through keeping up with exercises.

Get back into gym: As soon as ale to thru shoulder exercises and gym opening again.

Get thru lockdown restrictions:  Look after myself and try not to get down about the situation we are all in.

Enjoy Summer: Use holiday days in the summer and get a tan.

Try not to obsess: Nights laying awake and not sleeping are not helpful so try not to overthink too much.

No Vices: Keep in control and don't fall back into any of previous vices.

Healthy body- Healthy mind- Peaceful existence- Happy soul

PLUS THE BIGGEST AIM FOR THE YEAR:

MOVE INTO MY FLAT!!!!!!

I'm aiming to get thru this lockdown then move into my flat.  It's a huge thing for me being on my own, in my own place and being independent again.  I have however done it before.  It will take time to get into the swing of things looking after myself but im sure i can manage it.

So i will be watching eagerly boriss's next update on how the vaccine is going and whether restrictions can be reduced.

Then if lockdown over i will change my buy to let mortgage to a normal one.

Then give my tenants their notice.

Then move in.

I've worked out ill need 1k for things i will need for the flat, eg coffee table, tv stand, tv for bedroom, microwave, kettle, dvd shelves and the most needed thing a sofa.  Ill get the sofa second hand incase i have to move back in with parents and have to get rid of it (i know negative thinking but i allways think ahead).

So that's my new objective to add to this years list.

All the best adam xx

Its wonderful reading about your multi-faceted ambitions Adam as you purposely look at every aspect of your life to ensure a better heart, mind, body and soul.

Having addressed, one day at a time, the recovery aspect of this addiction, you have been able to spend time, and, incidentally, money saved for positive ends.

We will know life is a rollercoaster, full of ups and downs, but you have given yourself the front seat so you can be best sighted on the downs and, most importantly, make the very best of the ups!
