Hi Misty

It won't be boring I assure you. I promise I would read it and no doubt resonate.

My story is called lol My Story and it's on the recovery diaries.

Have you tried any in person or zoom meetings ? Meetings have been such a huge part of my ongoing recovery.

@12o8g9i0xr hey Fran, I'm glad you started some therapy, and if you don't mind sharing who is your therapy with as in organisation, I get therapy both through gamcare for gambling focused therapy and then I contacted the primary care gambling service that offer therapy and in my assessment I made it clear while I understood I had an addiction it was the root cause and my past I wanted to look into so I could better understand how my mind made decisions and thought that led to not only my gambling addiction but alcohol and drugs in the past. My therapist who for this purpose I can't name is both an addiction, trauma and mental health therapist and I got 20 weeks therapy for free, with potentially to extend or do couples therapy afterwards if they saw myself and my partner as viable options for that. It's not been easy to take down the doors and boxes I put up to protect me from my past and I was diagnosed with complex PTSD which was a bit of a shock for me but helped me understand myself further and I can't lie I went in and just decided I didn't care I was tearing my life apart top to bottom and getting all my issues, insecurities and shame out there to my therapist to then provide me with meaningful and helpful tools to cope or simply tell me the way I feel is justified. I hope this gives you some context and help in gaining access to the right therapy for yourself but I'm happy to talk more about my situation if you think that may help you 😊

@jrd6wx15ae hey misty, firstly don't ever worry about your story being boring, addicts love to read others stories and see the growth in them, while you may have struggled, you haven't left and that is something to be proud of, admitting defeat is easier than getting back up to fight another day. Therapy through gamcare is great but have you reached out for any other therapy?? And if it's not too personal do you have any idea why you gambled?? Sometimes finding the root cause if there is one can really help you tackle addiction but also makes finding the right therapy much easier, any questions you have please feel free to ask 😊
