Attempting a third recovery diary.

Day 1.

Very low on funds and a whole month to wait before payday. Fairly easy not to gamble.

I called helpline yesterday. I am going to seek counselling. I was given a number to call on Monday during normal working hours.

Day 8

No gambling for a week.

I called helpline last weekend. I was urged to book counselling during normal business hours. Unfortunately, I work during normal business hours and I have found it difficult to find some free time to make call.

Day 14

I have not updated this post as much as I did the first time I created a recovery diary. Probably because I have not got the urge to gamble at all. The last relapse has taken a toll in a good way I suppose. Still, I expect payday to be a problem but thats days away.

Day 30

Payday tomorrow. I will be spending all my spare cash on presents with rest going on debts and bills. Not had the urge to bet as the thought just reminds me of last splurge which is too depressing to think about.

Day 35

I had an the urge to gamble today. I even went into a bookies to see what horses were running in a certain big race. I did not gamble though.

I think I had an urge to gamble as I have spent majority of my spending money leftover from wages and I think gambling will solve problem of raising funds during rest of the month.

Hi Degenerate,

Like you, I am back here for the third time. Trying to sort my head out after many relapses, and the thing is. The behaviour that you have just described in your previous post is so similar to mine.

You have brilliantly to get to 35 days and the last thing you want to do now is to mess that great work up.

Think about it logically. If you had placed a bet today, win or lose, you are back involved. Would you have walked out after one bet? I doubt it.

A win, and we think we are invincible. Lose and we chase our losses. At least that's how it is with me. Either way it is better to just not go in the bookies (self-exclude if you have to) and give your self the temptation.

Well done for walking away from it today my friend, you showed fantastic strength to do that.

You can do it. Get to day 36 and give yourself a pat on the back.

All the best

Ade
