Ive been gambling. Im so ashamed. It was a real binge. The most Ive gambled in one day in ages.

I dont feel like I can post on others' diaries, I know f**k all about quitting gambling.

My life is lovely apart from this. I dont think there is any underlying reason for my gambling now, I am just addicted.

Hi Freda,

For sure yes, the machines are designed to be addictive and before we know it they have once more become an ingrained part of our habits and routines. It could happen with me at any point but one day at a time i choose otherwise. Its a tough addiction.

I think you actually know a great deal about how to quit and have given me and others great support and over a long period of time. But as with all of us the hard work is applying it to "self" and maintaining it day in and day out. It is not easy to maintian the resolve either. I can relate to where your thoughts are at. I hope you resolve your mixed feelings around gambling. Take care.. S.A

Thank you SA, Jeff, seano and Jas

sorry Ive not been posting, but have been reading. Just been off having a word with myself.

Well, new barrier put in place. Debit card given to hubby, and hubby giving me cash when I need it but no more than £20 at a time. It actually feels quite nice, and is making me more careful with the cash I do have in my purse. To be honest, I would have taken this step ages ago, if it weren't so inconvenient as I buy most of the things we need for the house. It has just made sense for me to do this, with my working part time, but a bit of inconvenience is better than an £85 binge.

Ive used up my credit at the sunbed place, above the arcade too, so no reason to be passing by there any more. Its the cheapest place in town, but works out to be a false economy as a compulsive gambler - most of my slips lately have been whilst visiting the tanning place.

Im really glad that I have never had a massive problem betting in bookies, as there is literally a betting shop on every corner in my city. Two of the same brand within 100 metres of each other - its madness!

Hi Freda, thanks for taking the time to post on my diary. It was much appreciated. I think you should change your diary name to 'rubber ball' because whatever life throws at you, you always come bouncing back for another go. Great to hear that you have given your card to your hubby - it does make you more careful when you only have a small amount of readies does'nt it.

Try to stay strong as I feel you are going to give things a real good go this time--or else you will have to have yet another word with yourself!!

All the best

Stumper

Thanks for the message Freda,i'm pleased to read that you are letting your husband have the debit card,i know from my own perspective that not having access to money is a huge help, your thoughts about gambling kind of get less frequent just because of taking this simple step....it can be a pain at times and you will both have to plan things a bit in terms of shopping etc,it's worth it though.

Hi Freda,

Thanks for the post on my diary, your support is greatly appreciated. Glad to read you have handed your card over to hubby and now just have a few quid on you when out and about. Its a great barrier to introduce, its been working for me for a while now. The more barrier to gambling we can put in place the better. Without access to money, gambling cannot happen. Hope to see you in chat soon, you've been missed.

Take care, Dave x
