Day 74. Wow they are really mounting up!

Feeling quite good. I discovered this website today, which shows you how much you can save by making extra payments on your mortgage. Its very surprising that as little as £10 extra paid per month can save you thousands in interest, and have the mortgage paid off months ahead of schedule!

It feels like something really positive to aim for, and unlike gambling, when you put some spare money down - you always win! for example, if I overpay £20 I save £43 in interest too - so its like paying £63 off. Love it!

I'm glad I discovered this at the start of our mortgage term because this is where the big savings on interest charges are to be made. its something really simple we can do to get a bit further ahead.

Hi my girl. There will always be people in this World who seem to think they know best. Although none of us know what goes on inside that person or what kind of life she had to make her the way she is now. As for her health. Well, my brother stopped taking all his mediation too. He had a heart attack last September and had 3 stents put in as a result. He now takes his medicine. What goes around comes around. I firmly believe that God has a sense of humour and I'm sure he is already lining up something for this lady to show her the error of her ways. You just carry on doing your stuff. You know you are doing well and so do we. Keep smiling and if it all gets too much, go and look for another job where people see the real you with all the wonderful values your hubby and all of us can clearly see. It will be their loss and someone else's gain. Luv ya. God Bless. Sabine. x

Hi Freda,

Thanks for post on my diary. I've just been reading through the last few pages of yours. re your boss- absolutely everything you said sounded so familiar and is exactly where I was up til 3 weeks ago. Mine was male, started as junior admin clerk with mickey-mouse uni degree and worked his way up rapidly to manager by kissing a** - no sales experience, no people skills, no personality. I put up with being put in my place everyday, constant sarcasm and belittling, being excluded and disagreed with constantly until I broke down in tears at my desk, collected my coat and walked. Went to GP and have been signed off for 3 weeks now with work-related stress. Something I have never done in 30 years of working as I hate the 'sick note' culture and think everyone who's well enough to work should make every effort to do something although I know jobs situation is dire right now and lots of redundancies everywhere.

Freda, it's the best decision, apart from kicking roulette machines, that I've made in years.NOBODY has the right to treat another human like that. I think bullies all have issues of their own and it's their 'release' getting rid of their anger and insecurities by making others misereable. I wish you all the luck in the world in finding somewhere else to work where they'll see what a great person you are and where you'll be appreciated and valued. Ex work-mates have found other jobs and tell me that there are nice places to work and what I was putting up with is definitely not the norm.

You've been so strong in staying gambling-free and sorting out your mortgage and getting there with your finances. I think a change of job would be another big part of the 'jigsaw'. My god, you deserve it. Don't let these b*****ds grind you down!

Bye for now

Kay x

Hi f... just been reading back a bit, I couldn't but help but smile in a "I know what you mean" sort of way. Isn't it the hardest thing about work.. its not the job alot of the time its ones collegues and if your unlucky enough to work with soemone you don't like or its a clash of personalities then the job can become hell.

The theory of course is that we can't change other people all we can change is our own reactions to other peoples behaviour... but like you say its reall hard sometimes not to tell someone exactly what you think of them.

Touch wood its not to bad at my place of work at the moment, most of my collegues are kind of fine are kind of ok. A few I feel kind of take advantage of my good nature cos I think they are just lazy but I can live with that. I'd rather be active and getting on with stuff than just sitting and doing nothing or sitting and eating or standing outside smoking oneself into an early grave.

I hope the situation with your collegue resolves itself soon.. though I guess the more realistic outcome is that you find a new job.

Anyway thanks for your support.. many long established diary writers seem to be melting away at the moment.. Cheers for now.. S.A

thanks SA and del for your musings 🙂

I'm going to have a long meditate this morning as my colleague is shockingly angry and ranting again today. I know - that never happens. My wise friend Sabine was right when she said that the universe has a sense of humour when showing people the error of their ways. Sadly I think this woman is too pig headed to listen to the messages the universe is giving her. today she is angry because her child is very ill, and is stubbornly refusing to take his medication. I also wish her son would take his medicine, because he needs to, but the irony is completely lost on her. She tells me this is completely different to her not taking her medication, because her son will have to go into hospital if he keeps refusing. I see what she means, no-one has ever ended up in hospital from refusing to take their high blood pressure medicine.....oh wait, yes they have. Oh well, she must still be right, probably for a magic reason that I wouldn't understand.... 😉

Well,

Things are a bit better at work. Sometimes the woman I work with can be fine for days, there have just been more bad days than usual lately.

4 more weeks, then I have 2 weeks off. The regular holidays definitely help you to keep going in what is effectively a s**t job. Am still applying for bits and bobs, even if I just got a 4 hour a week weekend job elsewhere, it would help. Then if it got to that "i really can't do this anymore" stage, I'd still have a few pennies coming in.

I regularly nearly get mowed down by cars, so I would prefer a job where I probably won't die. 😉

Gambling-wise I have reached that dangerous part where the urges are not that strong anymore, and my gambling head will tell me its safe to have a little something I fancy. So I have to remind myself why I can't do that.

In the past, I have still gone back to the odd lottery ticket after a few months total abstinence, but I'm going to keep away this time. I suspect there will come a time when I can reassess that, but for the foreseeable I am staying well away from gambling in all its forms.

Today is day 85. When the pay went into my bank, I wasn't sweating on my last 50p! I am only now starting to feel I have caught up on things financially. My last binge was only £75, but it was the things I wasn't paying for - haircuts, clothing that needs replacing, toiletries etc. that were all long overdue. So after 12 weeks I got back on top of those sort of things, and today my hair will finally get a trim.

It is nice to feel that there is nothing I desperately need, but can't afford. I'm not rolling in it, but just managing which is fine by me 🙂

Hiya Freda,

Thanks for your post

'Just managing' is a relatively good feeling compared to 'how the hell am I going to get through the next 4 weeks'

Well done you! It's hard having that patience to wait til you can afford things rather than try to win the money and end up with nothing.

Surprisingly, even after a few days away, I still have a small amount of wages left which will see me through til next week when I'll get final pittance from now ex-employer. Wish I could have been in this position before but absolutely no point in loooking back and regretting - onwards and upwards.

Glad things seem to be a bit better for you at work. Are you still looking elsewhere too? I've been looking on Jobcentre website and there seem to still be jobs around but more and more are only paying min wage right now, I suppose because they can.

Anyway, I won't ramble on any longer

All the best

Kay x
