Willpower

This is just my opinion, but as I see it, there are two ways of stopping gambling.

The first way is to white knuckle with no support and this may work but does it really help arrest the issue fully and create a new way of living without gambling ? I guess some manage it but it wasn't for me.

When I first put blocks, barriers and friction in place followed by accountability, I knew they were just giving me more time to change my mind and fight any urge or thought. I knew it would take time to place another bet and where that would lead to but it was good to have it in place.

We don't talk about Willpower enough in my view and perhaps those early foundations reduce the amount of willpower needed but it still takes some. If someone said to me that I have given up solely because I can't l, I would be offended as I know it's taken a lot of willpower.

I also know now that willpower isn't enough and to truly stay in recovery I needed to start retraining my brain to enjoy normality and stop running away from life.

That said, I feel proud today for the work I've done so far. I can pay myself on the back for the willpower it took me to get to a point where I started to not want to gamble, to not lose a decent life and be a decent person again.

For me, this lifelong battle has only just started but I do feel proud of my willpower

Will power as you rightly say alone will not stop you gambling.Only dedicated GA Gamcare talking to Advisors at Gamcare is the only way if you want good recovery. You have to put the work in and don't make the fatal mistake thinking your cured after a few months.
