Targets and goals

Really wanted to get something out of my head that I've been thinking about in my recovery and see if anyone else feels the same

For numerous different reasons in my life, I turned to gambling. In the background would always be the thought of the big win. Of course I know it would never be enough. What I've learned in recovery is that I had big dreams where I set huge goals. My brain then thought it would need a shortcut rather than work towards it, so I turned to gambling.

My question to myself and others is, do non.addicts look at a big goal and split it down to smaller parts to build towards it. Set deadlines as to where you would need to be ? Is that the difference ?

The one and only goal is to put every block in place from gamban moses sense and blocking your bank card from gambling websites  .and also protecting the innocent victims such as family to separate their own finances and isolate them from the debt created .never trust a gambler they will lie deceive and take every single penny you own without hesitation to fund the addiction.one minute one hour one day 5 years it makes not a jot of difference goals are a fallacy and an illusion why on earth set a goal of 12 months 2 4 6 8 10 years best bit of advice is too promise ourselfs never too ever gamble again not for you .but too repair or plaster over the damage caused the terrible decisions we.made in the past which led us to seek help.from the brill gamcare staff to help and assist us too a new gamble free life.

@g3y6a5jbds this is valid point what does 10 years bet free mean when the damage is repeated however to tarnish every addict in the same category is abit over stretch would u put someone who managed 50 years bet free in the same catagory? Surely small minorty of people dont fit this catogry infact some of those people become better people then alot of non addicts who have never experienced addiction

@g3y6a5jbds

I apologise for not explaining but I wasn't talking about goals of abstinence at all. I was talking about general goals in life.

I don't give advice and if that works for you then fair enough but from the posts I've seen you do seem to be very angry.

I do have all the blocks in place. I not only have Gamstop for five years auto renewal and no notification, I'm on the original moses, sense. I'm self excluded from every arcade with an hour's drive. I'm excluded at all motorway services. I have a block for gambling on my banking app. I bank online so there are no branches. My ATM has a ten pounds per day limit. I don't carry cash. My partner and my mother look at my banking app and email every day. I self excluded with 150 operators and got put on gamprotect. That only ever stopped me gambling. For people around me to benefit I had to tackle the problem with me and why I gambled for 44 years. You can't help other people and make amends for the past unless you change. Blocks are not going to do that. All they are is a helpful safety net.

This is the second time you have written on one of my posts preaching and I can't stop you doing it but why not write your own topic if you feel this strongly. Telling people to live in the past will not help one person on here. In essence, telling them to apologise for the harm a million times makes no difference to the people I've harmed. The only thing that will help people around me is to be the best version of myself each day that I can. Progress not perfection. I hold no gripe to you or anyone else. You can have your opinions but sometimes advice on this platform can be very dangerous.

@tazman

Hi Taz,

It's my fault for not explaining myself. I completely agree with what you are saying though

I was asking a question about certain goals like buying a holiday. I would always think, that's a lot of money and try and shortcut it by gambling to get the money. My question was, do non addicts break down the big amount into smaller savings goals
