26 Days down....got through my first payday week without any drama. Although my finances are heavily monitored now so I don’t think I could have a dabble even if I wanted to. Which I don’t so far.

Went to do the big shop last night with my partner, saw there’s a new £10 scratchcard out (why am I still looking at them when I walk past, like looking at a menu when you’re on a diet) couldn’t get it out of head for ages but then on every £10 cards I’ve bought, never won more than £100, rubbish odds.

Looking forward to a lovely sunny weekend and going to enjoy the football. Have fun everyone!

Well done on getting past payday, Leedsfan.

I can’t believe you’re on 26 days already. Feels like only yesterday that I read your first post.

You’re closing in on a whole month which is fantastic.

You have better things than gambling in the future to look forward to, such as your holiday and a Leeds Utd promotion 🙂 haha!

Seriously though, a massive well done. I think it’s only natural to have a glance over at the scratchcards whilst you’re out shopping. It was a big part of your life for so long. But treat is as a test of your resolve that’ll make you stronger in the long run.

Dan x

Im not pleased to admit i checked the odd for a few weeks after i quit. The last finger tips of resistance clinging on? Maybe. This is an engrained addiction. It takes stopping to see how much we lived around it. I never came close to betting when checking the odds and i stopped that after about 4-5 weeks GF.

Don't be too hard on yourself but be aware its still not "normal" behaviour to do it.

Keep away from that first bet/gamble thats the important part at first. Then recovery can be worked on. Self improvement follows self respect and awareness.

Have a good weekend.

All the best.

Sorry not been around much recently, happy to say I’m enjoying my 39 GF day.

I went to asda to this week and for the first time I didn’t even think about that lottery counter. I only realised once I came out. The urges are slowly starting to ease.

It’s been a tough month money wise ie I’m really watching what I spend, thinking do I really need to make that car journey or buy that sandwich out. But that’s good, I I think a few months of hardship will teach me a lot about money and the value of it. Also I’m loving the hot weather and World Cup, possibly drinking a little more than I should but nothing too excessive.

So true, esp about having the first bet which with me would be a £2 scratch card or accumulator. I just don’t want to risk this much better life I am now enjoying. Still trying to take one day at a time, I want to make plans for August when the footy season starts again. It’ll be a major test for me but haven’t missed betting during the WC. With all these crazy results I just know I’d have lost way more than I’d won.

Hope everyone is doing well on their own journey and keeping the Faith!

I'm the same enjoying the world cup without a bet and looking forward to the football season and seeing it exactly as it is - 'a football season' not a betting / accumulators / both teams to score season. Got my season ticket renewed and looking forward to a couple of beers before the game and then enjoying the game for what it is rather than worrying about a grubby betting slip in my hand or missing half the game checking my phone for other results ive had bets on .

youve done brilliant so far leedsfan , so much to enjoy apart from emptying you account into the hands of a greedy shameless corporation, and dont forget 'its coming home'

Thanks, totally agree! I find it easier to not bet when I’m at a live game. I think a lot of the time it was bordem or what it started out as.

Good luck to your team this season, as long as it’s not Man U : P

Good luck to dirty Leeds as well, lets see if this manager gets more than a couple of months, I live too close to Manchester to be a United fan - you have to be from Hertfordshire to support them

42 days.....6 weeks ago today I was in absolute despair, thought my relationship was over and felt so low.

However, now enjoying the best summer in years. Despite far too much sun and beer yesterday! Found a love of football again without watching it via skybet.

Had a bit of a wobble on Friday, lost a tenner and it made me really mad, wanted to try to win it back. However, managed to put that to one side and think logically about it.

Proud of myself this month, it’s my OH’s Birthday next week, we have a small budget for birthdays. But also managed to save £100 this month as it lands right before payday, so I can take her for dinner. first time in years I’ve had that much money left in my account a week before pay day.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

Thanks for the post in my diary, Leedsfan.

Yes, a World Cup final is getting ever closer and with a very winnable semi final to come, there may never be a better chance in our life time. It’s there for the taking. Croatia will be tough though. You’re right, it’s been refreshing to enjoy the World Cup for what it is and to not have to place bets on every match. I can honestly say that I’ve had very few urges throughout the tournament.

Congratulation on hitting 6 weeks! Not long to go before you bring up your half century.

Keep up the good work!

Dan
