Decided to start a new topic as I heard a very powerful line last night. If you want to get over monies lost to gambling and are down in the dumps or thinking of chasing your losses then simply think in terms of lost money as entertainment paid for.

Certainly has made me think differently since hearing that line, the next time I want to enter a bookies, I will think, hang on you are going to buy entertainment, turn around and buy yourself some other form of entertainment i.e. watch a film, buy a magazine, buy a coffee and entertain myself by watching people go by etc, etc.

Very powerful as it takes away that connection of gambling, winning money, losing money and chasing.

Good luck guys.

I always looked on it as Paying for a cure ? , if someone said you had a life threatening disease and the price of the cure was however much you’ve lost gambling over the years you’d be happy to pay right ? But the cure will only last as long as you stay stopped:)) All the best 🙂

A9, excellent analogy.

What got me thinking about a different way of gambling was a chance meeting with an ‘old gambling acquaintance’, over the weekend. I used to bump into him in casinos, bookies etc and don’t to this day know his name. I asked the inevitable and he replied that he has given up gambling for over 8 years now. I asked what his secret was and he said it’s easy, just think of gambling like paying for entertainment, every time he had an urge or pulled up in the casino car park he would ask himself do you really want to pay for entertainment this way, the answer was always no so he would turnaround.

This really has changed my thinking, take the money equation out all together and look upon it has entertainment, let’s face it, I will never win big on the roulette machines to change my life (in excess of a hundred thousand pounds) so why bother putting myself through the torment.

For me, giving up gambling is about changing the mindset and I have to apply any formula that works for me.

All the best guys, speak soon.

Hi guys

Keep fighting those urges and stay gamble free, and remember, when we get tempted we will simply spend our money on other entertainment. What a feeling it must be when one of us gets a massive urge, we don’t give into to it and buy ourselves a Nike top instead.

Every time we wear that top we can say this is the entertainment I spent that money on instead of gambling.

It’s all about control, gambling used to control us, now it’s the other way round - don’t it feel good!

When we think about it, paying for entertainment where the end result leaves us devastated, broken, walking zombies etc, probably isn’t the wisest choice when looking to entertain ourselves.

Me, when I get an urge, I am going to cinema, buying coffee and people watching, going for a fully body aromatherapy massage or buying myself an expensive top.

Good luck for the weekend, not that we need it.
