Hi all

Apologies if I'm over posting today but it's very much a reflection day for me. I do like to get things out, either on to paper or post them on here. I guess everyone has the choice to read them of not.

I'm sure everyone has their one feelings about their addiction. I struggle to separate it from myself. For me, it's not like I invited a friend to stay who over stayed his welcome by 44 years before I had the hindsight to throw him out.

My view is that my addiction is part of me. I'm confident, not complacent that my addiction is currently, just for today, locked in a box in my mind. The box has a combination lock which I know the code but I am aware that even the slightest opening of the box by buying a raffle ticket or a round of golf for drinks would end up in disaster because my addiction is a jack in the box ready to spring back twice as hard, ten times as scary.

The other thought I'm easy if it's that my character defects can also unlock Jack. If I don't reflect and judge my ego each day, patience, tolerance etc then Jack will be out of the box again

Very true. I abstained for 12 months. Decided I would avoid every type of gambling. My latest incident started with buying scratch cards. As it was only a few pounds at a time I didn't equate it to the disastrous gambling that involved large sums. Of course its still the same rush all be it on a smaller scale. It's a gateway. So yes from now on no gambling at all.
