Hi

Yes I haven't lost my mind and I've not taken to drink but I've been thinking about my addiction and the way it acts, it's like a cat.

Over the years it's always climbed trees and needed rescuing

Whenever I feed it, it comes back

It only shows loyalty when I do feed it or it finds someone else

It looks cuddly and innocent but has razor sharp claws

Tickle it's tummy for short periods and it purrs but so it for too long and it sticks it's claws into you and bites.

It doesn't need a lot of maintenance or skill to look after, just wants to be kept well fed.

It cannot speak so I do not speak

It knows how to get into and out of tight spots

It's highly active and hunts it's victim

It looks so harmless and cute but a devil lacks behind its eyes

It's an interesting read to look at addiction as an animal, something that may help others identify it as an issue but potentially not the most useful tool for recovery unless your struggling to find pattern, triggers and control urges then having a pet to relate it to may help certainly an interesting view

@lp5vut869c yeh it's definitely an interesting spin on things, not sure if relate mine to a cat personally but I understand the metaphor and can appreciate it, done some interesting work at therapy today about TA (Transactional analysis) and the 3 ego states of a human and how they work, it helped me realise I still see the child version of me as flawed and broken so have been tasked with when I'm parenting my boys to include my mid brain and younger self in the lessons I teach which is a really odd idea but I can see it being hugely beneficial to me
