Day 295 of this new life of mine .

Dear diary , not been on for a couple of weeks and it's like everyone checked out , with lots of departures and arrivals . I'm always sad to see people leave especially when youv'e travelled alongside them for quite a while but we all do what we need to do and as always our journey's are quite individual and I wish them all well .

Thanks Loxxie for the drop by if you read this and I hope your well ? .

Had a couple of strange weeks , no gambling urges but quite a few things have happened that could well have triggered a relapse in my early recovery . Quit a few doctors appoinments , eye tests and foot checks all due to my diabetes being monitered , all came back ok and still not on any Meds , so really good news . It's funny with life that you go along quite happily. things go right and then a few " Shi,t bricks " ( thank you Joan ) rain down upon you , I've been suffering pain in my left wrist and apparently I'd torn some tendons by picking up too much weight that my 21 old brain was telling my 55 yr old body I could easily lift ( note to self , don't beleive everything your little voice is telling you ) . My dogs torn Ligaments in her back leg which require surgery on Tuesday , theres been a bit of umming and ahhing going on with the vet as she's 11 and there a bit worried about her surviving the anaesthetic but the way I see it is that She can't go on hobbling around on three legs and enjoy being a dog , I think she's a fighter and I'm sure it will be for the best , she was a present for my son on his 10 th birthday and weve been through everything together and knows all my inner secrets , she's worth all the effort to put things right .

My son came home for the weekend just gone and returned to his house in Bournmouth on Sunday , He thought that one of his housemates was upstairs and went to investigate the noise only to be confronted by a man and woman ransacking the bedrooms , the guy shot out through an upstairs bedroom window and the girl managed to get away down the staris , knowing him gthe way I do I'm kinda glad he didn't catch either of them and TBH you never really know what your going to face if you do , they got away with a few things but left a lot more behind which had already been bagged up ready to go and at the end of the day It's just electronics that can be replaced unlike life which can't , it seems kinda ironic that im writing this on a diary of an addict , whos son's just been robbed to feed another kind of addction , feeling something about " goes around , comes around "?

Finally my daughter text me last night to say someone had reversed into her new car , which she only got about twp weeks ago the car didn't stop but someone got the registration , my heart went out to her as she's got enough to deal with at the mo , with the wedding fast approaching .

So bit of an up and down week but that being said My mind now rested from gambling for nearly 300 day's is telling me " It's just life mate " " s***t happens and it's not the world ganging up on you " and I'm listening because I'm still not gambling , I'm not running for shelter from the " Shi.t bricks " , I don't need to anymore , I'm wearing the "Hard Hat of recovery " .

Really really best wishes to all in recovery .

Alan xx

Hi Loxxie , SB , Martin , Ben and Bavlaaaaar , thanks guys for all the kind words . Not been on here much of late , the weddings approaching at a million miles an hour and to be honest I just haven't had a minute spare , it only seems 5mins ago it was xmas and I was thinking that I still had 7 months before I gave my daughter away but it also really doesn't seem 300 days ago that I arrived at this place and in quite a bad way as I remember only too well , it's lovely now that I'm able to just get on with life now and not spare a thought about gambling , instead I'm putting all my time and effort into being in the moment and just enjoying life , sure it still throws up the odd wobbly day but at least now I'm better equipped to deal with it one day at a time . Dogs in for surgery in the morning which I'm a bit worried about because of her age but as I said before she's a fighter and what will be will be , again all about acceptance and being able to control somethings and accepting that others are out of my hands . Foster kids are all good and enjoying life as they should but no real news regarding them returning to their parents anytime soon . Been talking with my partner recently about me giving up the shop in order to have more input into the fostering , she brought it up as she knows I'm fed up with all the long days stood on my aching joints , we'll talk about it more after the wedding I think , it's s great idea but a bit scary for me to take the leap after 35 yrs of doing the same job , just fear of the Unknown I guess ? . Still waiting for my money to come through from my private pension pot , to fund the wedding but it should be in place in scourge of weeks , I just took a couple of grand from some premium bonds I had to cover the vets fees tomorrow and pay for s few bits o need to sort out for the wedding . It's a really nice feeling being able to trust myself with s large sum in my account these days because a year ago I know exactly where that would have ended up and even worse joe I would have felt once it has gone !! . So just finished my coffee while on town shopping for a few clothes , then back to work on a couple of hours . Guys thank you all so much for your continued support , I checked in this morning and saw all the lovely posts and just wanted you to know how much it means and how humble it makes me feel . I will catch up with you all as soon as everything calms down a bit , I promise . Love to you all and wishing everyone a gamble free week . Ps Louis of you read this ? Many congratulations to you and yours on the birth of your baby son , may he bring you all the joy and happiness you deserve . Alan. Xxx

Late to the party as ever Pops but lovely update on a great milestone 🙂

Hopefully you don't jack the shop in til we've visited...But, I know you'll make all your decisions with a clear head now & that's all we can hope for each other!

Fingers crossed for your 4 legged girl...Hopefully she'll come to a little bit drunk but out of pain!

You, take it easy on those old bones & we'll hear from you when we hear from you!

Hi Diary , quick update, Just lost £ 1200 , funnily enough the same amount that I lost when I decided to first come here 301 day's ago with one difference , when I came here I'd just given it to a Fobt machine in a bookies shop , the money I lost today was to the vet who just fixed my dog's leg , she's now in recovery and so am I , money well spent me thinks :))

Have a great gamble free day Guy's and Love life xx
