I have not posted for a long time but due to a recent issue I want to put my point into perspective.Â
Let me start from the get go.
I have been self excluded from absolutely everything to do with Gambling for a considerable amount of time.Â
Anyway, last Monday I ended up in a High Street Adult Gaming Centre. One thing led to another and I lost a more than 4 figure sum in the space of 2 hrs.Â
My point is, the Bank never checked for unusaul activity. Especially seeing as a large sum came out onto a ticket 5 times within 1hr.Â
The staff member hardly spoke English and helped me unload the funds from my card and only offered a drink, when I had a Win which annoyed me btw.
Moreover, I am a self excluded customer with a mental health issue that is aggravated by Compulsive Gambling behaviour.
So, I left after losing and the next day was worried so much I went back to the store the next day to ask to be self excluded,
the same lone member of Staff pulled out a Tablet phone, and immediately my Photo Id popped up, I proceeded to snap a screenshot of my photo and left because I was really angry.
I immediately contacted BACTA for a list of self excluded places I am on and it was on the list. I gathered Bank statements, contacted the bank and produced proof of my Mental Health letters etc.
The company investigated the CCTV and concluded they did everything they could in their social Resposibility to protect me from Gambling Harm?
They reffered me to their ADR company. The ADR replied they only try to claim on winnings and not on money spent.
I went to the Gambling Commision and they helped the most, I guess, but said basically Self Exclusion is only a tool- which I will discus more shortly.
I also went to my bank and they didnt want to know. I have contacted my Local MP and the Financial Ombusdsman to do with the Bank and trying to get my money back on the grounds that they never flagged it as unusual activity on my card.
With regards to self exclusion, it works if they are using facial recognition. But this particular company delibrately doesnt use it which is highly suspicious. Because the technology works- they dont use it-I guess? And this venue is slap bang in the middle of two other arcade that use the tech so it further makes me wonder.
The operator tried to say in their investigation that they have 331 other Self Excluded customers and I am last so it would be difficult to indentify me from that list. This is definitely not a good excuse.
They are basically saying they failed to detect a self excluded player and they also failed to protect a customer from gambling related harm due to placing large sums into a machine from my bank card in a short space of time.
I have come to the conclusion: The operators are relying on revenue from a handful of vunerable customers that are problem gamblers. However, most of them are on a self exclusion list and its hitting them hard, therefore they are exploiting loopholes in the Law to ensure they still receive those large sums from the out of control people and they dont care whether they are excluded or not.Â
On paper it all looks above board for these companies and looks as if people are remaining in control whilst gambling.
It also looks as if they are keeping the minority out of their stores. Particularly the People who are the most vunerable and effected by Gambling related harms.
Logic tells me that there is no profit in people that are able to walk away. And from my experience there is a completely corrupt system in place pretending that these businesses are running a legitmate high street store whilst all other shops are closing down at an exponential rate.
What sad times.

Hello,Â
I feel your pain….been there done it and got the 250k badge for good measure.
Sadly in all circumstances we can’t blame anyone but ourselves in these types of circumstances. Yes they have a duty of course, but so do we otherwise why do we sign up?Â
Got to take it on the chin I am afraid, another bump in the road to navigate and learn from.Â
@c17ort Is it really that harsh? I honestly thought that something could be done?
The Point is you knew you was self excluded you can't expect them to babysit you. I used to be like you and blame everyone else after i lost. The fact is you Lost your money take the resonsibility for this, and try change by being commited to recovery.would you be here if you won i guess you wouldn't be complain if you won.
@ypqtfao731 You are totally missing the point and this is the real reason I am here!Â
I lost, nobody cares I get it...
But the facts still remain that there is a Handful of people, or more, that struggle with day to day functioning and go so far as to seek help by way of Self Exclusion and therapy to just be overlooked by the Laws and the Operator's and the irony is fellow recovering addicts like myself are quick to say its youe own fault. Nah, sorry but this needa looking at closer.Â
It isnt my fault, I am only half of the Story, the other half is Rich and a giant that probably squeezes me down to much less than half of the story.
Instead of the Its yoyr osn fault and Im in the same Boat how abouy coming together and standing up against these regulators to ensure that the protection is properly implemented into law so that the people who seek help get it and thsn these operatora will disappear overnight....Um just like when the bookies reduced the stake to £2.
You are angry mate, everyone here understands it thats why we are here for support.
The previous comments were not telling you that the system isnt flawed. You are absolutely right, something needs to be done about it.
The main takeaway though mate is if we really wanted to gamble we would find a way. You knew that the other two wouldnt let you in.
Nobody is having a go at you, I have mental health problems from my gambling addiction. The truth hurts but you need to see this as an opportunity to learn from.Â
If you feel like you aren't in control at the moment, let someone you trust manage your money till you are back on track.Â
Do what works for you mate, but please dont beat yourself up.Â

Jack jones i am sorry to hear this tbh bookmaker Arcades etc are all useless in terms of self exclusion only land based casino take self exclusion seriously so i totally understand your point and it never going to change wether they are going to implement it is another matter i personally believe the self exclusion isnt worth anything unlike unlike with stuff like Gamban you simply cant log into legal sites so it does what it suppose to do i have come to a conclusion since it never going to change u have to get the support not to go step foot in those places
@g0r7tnm625 I am angry at myself because they dont want to share the blame. When you google what happened to me you will find information saying when this happens you dont automatically receive a refund but most of the it says you can get a refund. It shouldnt say that if it is a no! That is a red flag and seems like a cover up? I really dont get why they would say that it is a serious breach etc etc... But when you go through the channels they drag an already emotionally challenged person through the dirt. I mean gambling disorders are detrimental to society and people become seriously ill and all sorts. Thats the reason why we self exclude really, isn't it? I lose money- I self exclude and it works, until I lose money again.... Then its all my fault, seems like a waste of resources and time to me.... Yh, I am angry it doesnt work.
@tazman Its a good job I do not enter land based Casinos so I wouldnt know. Also, I stay out of the Bookies and never ever place a Bet online. I am really happy with that and I manage to take care of myself because Health is the real Currency. The lure of wellbeing is deeply rooted into the fact that the money we have the better our quality of life and the thing I didnt mention because it is off topic is that Gambling advertisment is out of Control and I believe there actually is an epidemic of Gambling and its a major Public Health Issue. So, yeah Id love to never ever step foot in those places ever again, in fact I wish for there to be no place in our Towns for them and online.
Hi Jack
Can I ask if you have a block on gambling transactions with your bank ? On my Monzo app I just click a button and it takes 24 hours to take off.Â
If you have then you do have a case with the bank
I would strongly suggest going on trustpilot and put up a shocking review. They will contact you no doubt and try and get you to take it down. Threaten to write to your local paper with the story. Don't give up complaining direct and threatening to cause them a loss of revenue.Â
Unfortunately I never at the time but the next day I did it was a very difficult feature to add on my online banking but now its turned on for good. I will look into your advice still, I actually have been writing to every single campaign out there since this I have definitely annoyed the operator already but they thought I was bluffing. I will ensure it goes to parliment because the Laws are already changing the Gambling Commision has been taken over and all sorts. There was a guy on here years ago that lost millions and he was in the news and everything. He led a very successful campaign and thats inspiring for a Gambler who can relate with the struggles of gambling harm. Despite going to prison for fraud He fought for others in a similar situation. I dont know why these guys on our High st dont pay cooperation Tax but remain free?Â
We are slowly winning the tax has literally doubled recently to keep those online casinos running and I hope it happens in the high streets too...Soon! It definitely points to the fact that compulsive gamblers fund them and the people that do a quid here and ther cannot possibly pay the rent.
The mechanics they are using to lure people in is unbelievable such as Dark Spots, dark patterns and Dark nudges... But thats another side to it...
Hi Jack
One bit of advice I have been given time and time again. It's pointless trying to change laws. It took 7 years to reduce the FOBTs down to £2. It will end up like gambling and take you to insanity. I would honestly let that side go and let someone else fight the battle
You can however have a go for yourself. I'm not saying you will win but they won't like trustpilot and they won't like the threat of gambling commission or your local paper
Glad you got that block in so you can't do that anymore. Arcades are harder to self exclude as you know. I switched to Monzo for extra friction against a bet....no branches....only can withdraw from post office...you can reduce monthly withdrawal counter limit and I reduced ATM limit to £10. They also charge for cash withdrawals which I hate so that's more friction
Really go to town on trustpilot. Are they are independent arcade or part of a group ?
The regulator is industry funded and is heavily lobbied by the operatorsÂ
The government sees gambling as a necessary evil to keep the masses distracted and in dismay whilst they go about all their other fraudulent activitiesÂ
Then of course theres the tax implication on it which is a lovely earner for them
Control over the industry is all a facade
There was a company a few years ago football index it was basically a licenced Ponzi scheme something like 90 million vanished over night
People like yourself were screaming from the rooftops one bloke I was following spent something like 3 years trying to press the governement for redress
it went nowhere other than a headache for himÂ
its unfortunate but you just need to suck it up and move on with your life.
Â
Â
So true. Nothing is ever going to change in a major way and the metrics of making 80% of their profits from people with a mental health problem is never going to change
I would share my dealings with 64 operators and the proof I've given them that they acted incorrectly. Just a series of tick boxes. Absolute waste of time
Gambling commission is a joke
Government is a joke. They get 3.4 billion in tax from an estimated 1.3bn of harm done.Â
Affected by gambling?
