Today was a huge blowout, £1000 in the matter of hours. All for what! Nothing. I have to stop for the sake of my family and my sanity.

Many times I’ve tried, 6 days/10 days/14 days. Then just slip back into old ways. I need to break this!

Welcome to the diaries, you are in the right place. We have all had similar experiences and can understand what you are going through.

I recommend you read the 3rd post on the recovery diaries titled "Want to DO something? >Read This!<" I believe it is very informative.

Wishing you every success ...stephen

Well done Stephen taking the first step is the hardest, I have been in your spot and repeated the slips etc. What has clicked in my mind is the thought that gambling does not help make you feel better / enjoyment / escape - it is compounding it Allen Carr book stop gambling i have read half of it and My normal mind is now that I am not giving something up I am not doing something that is bad for me,

Hope you carry on posting and stay gf

Well done on getting through the first few days. We can all identify with the negative emotions felt by the compulsive gambler after a binge. Shame, guilt, remorse, fear, anger, bitterness, resentment and self loathing to name just a few.

The good news is that you are here amongst friends who understand. We have all come to admit that we are compulsive gamblers and have made a conscious decision to stop gambling.

The battle you have undertaken will be very challenging. I would advise that you seek all the help you can get through signing up to 'Gamstop' and self excluding from anywhere you are likely to gamble. Maybe also consider someone else watching over your finances. On the forum you will find plenty of advice and information which you may find helpful. I wish you every success in stopping gambling ...stephen

Thanks Stephen, GamStop is in place, the real challenge is on days off when the wife is at work and kids are at school. That’s the downtime that always leads to it. It’s now trying to fill that void with something else.
