I have gone back into the habit of gambling again. I now have a debt of £3,300 and need to get rid of it. Finding it really hard to start again. I thought i had self excluded myself off everywhere online but i always talk myself into finding somewhere. I am really going to give it another shot but properly this time. This has gone on too long now and is starting to affect me worse than i thought it could. I need to pay off this debt on my card and stop for good. I have around £140 a week to spend on whatever but since xmas i always try and turn that 140 into the 3,300 to pay it off. Slippery slope that needs to stop today. I am in the right frame of mind now but its so hard for me to keep thinking like this.
Hi Tom, I am new here like yourself and in the early days of recovery, not done a week yet but hoping this time will be different for me.
I installed Gamban on my devices yesterday as my problem is with online gambling. I only knew it existed after trawling through many posts on here on my day 1. I literally cannot access any gambling site online no matter how hard I have tried or tried to find a way around it. Once it is downloaded and installed, it cannot be deleted for one year. I really think this will be the main thing that will help me in my recovery. I feel immense relief that I know that I cannot access any form or online gambling site.
As a back up I have registered with Gamstop who will exclude me from all sites that are registered with themselves. Hopefully it will be compulsary for all gambling companies to do so in the future.
In regards to the debt, I find myself that there is no quick fix. My credit rating is shot and this is not something that will improve overnight. Can you contact a debt charity for advice? To me, the debt isnt going away any time soon therefore my main focus is to be and remain gamble free. My debt can be paid back over time and will lessen every month that I can beat this addiction.
Wishing you all the best in your recovery.
