Today is day 4 and I can honestly say that I have no desire to gamble right now, I'm seriously tired of the highs and lows of gambling! hope everyone has a lovely, gamble free weekend!

i think you make a good suggestion - set a target to be gamble free for a year and if you dont see the benefits by the end of that then there must be something seriously wrong. I like that idea. If i can just committ to making it to 365 days and then appraise if my life is better, in which case I will continue, or if it is worse then I can make another choice. I bet (... sorry for the wording) that the former will be the choice I make. So I'm going to committ to your 365 challenge. Welcome me aboard on your journey! Keep the faith.

All the best Change, I am determined to do this, lets make a pact to do this together! A year seems like a long time but it goes so quickly, I have copied a passage I found on someone's diary, I can't remember what her name was but it was about gambling addiction and how gambling loves to see us cry and sob, better still it loves to make us feel so numb we can niether hurt nor cry, I don't know about you but I've felt this way many times, especially after I've won a lot of money and then played it all out again! I read the passage every day now, it helps me remember what it feels like to lose!

Yes let's make that pact. A commitment for one year and then to continue from there. I'll check in on you as best you can. Let's not let each other down.

I've been a week gamble free, not even 1 scratchcard which is a first, I will beat this addiction! I don't want to be sitting here next year harping on about how I'm going to stop, I'm the captain of my ship! Change, we need to change! Lets do this!

Brilliant. Love the phrase that you are captain of your ship, you have chosen to be a whole week free so keep choosing wisely, one day at a time.

Well done.

Hi Change, I'm doing brilliantly, I haven't as much as bought a scratchcard! this is the first time in years that I haven't given in, something that is worrying me a bit is that I'm buying really stupid things like ornaments and garden ceramics, I suppose it's better than throwing my money away! Hope you are doing well Change, when was the last time you gambled?

Great news Debra. I'm on day 41. It's still difficult but focusing on staying away from temptation.

Hi Debra.

Well done continuing with your gamble free days. You will reap plenty of happy rewards if you continue, that's for sure.

Take care.

Excellent for getting through 41 days, I can't wait to be able to say I haven't gambled for 100/200/300 days or better still, to be able to say that gambling is well and truly in my past! I was thinking about how much money I've wasted over the years and did a few rough calculations, if I put all the money that I've saved by not gambling into a huge jar, by the time the year is up it will be like I've won a really big jackpot! In all my 10 years of gambling the highest amount I have won is £1300.00, (I put it all back anyway), I have consistently spent around £500.00 per month, sometimes more on gambling, thats £6000.00 for the year! if thats not an incentive then nothing will be.

Feb 2013, thank you for your comments, I am just so happy that I made the decision to stop, I feel like I've chosen life over death, I know that sounds dramatic but the amount of times I'd gambled and lost and felt utter despair and hated myself, it's a relief to be able to fall asleep now and not have hundreds of "what ifs" going through my mind. Hope you are doing well!

Take care

Debra

Keep going Debra. Try not to think about the money. It's not important. Living life from herein is important. Rip off the shackles of the past and go forth. Keep the faith.
