Gambling addiction can appear in many different forms and I nearly got caught out yesterday.
I was checking my banking app to make sure that everything was correct on my banking and I checked my small amount of savings. When I clicked through to this section it was showing me a savings option of an investment trust similar to a unit trust. I clicked on this, partly as I was interested and partly because I wanted more growth on my savings. The next screen asked me if I wanted low risk, medium or high risk. Not surprisingly my addictive brain took over and clicked high risk. Before the app even loaded the next screen I felt a rush of excitement and dopamine ! I immediately shut down the app and will not be going back to that section.
At first I felt guilty because if anyone asked me before, I would have said it's gambling as there is a risk attached (that's just my point of view). Then I was pleased I didn't relapse and reset my clock. For me, the moral of the story isn't just to be on guard for instances like this but it's also that this is the way I am built. It's never going to go away, it just lies dormant. If I had of gone ahead I would have been checking the value over and over again each day on my phone.
Has anyone else got any instances where a situation presented itself, not looking like gambling but was or felt like it ?
