I am not being negative but in the real world gamble free time just means u havent caused any destruction within a time frame the reason am saying this i read a forum where someone commented their partner did it again after 10 years on here for 99.9% of people this is fantastic achievement this person must have put some effort in to place to achieve this time yet i didnt see a single comment praising his gamble free achievement another thing to note what i want to know does the partner have some responsibility in this should the partner have a duty of care to have come cleaner sooner

Such a good post Taz. I guess it doesn't matter what other people think, it's what we think.

This topic is of interest to me beyond what you talk about. You are the absolute right person to talk to as you said, once you hit 1000 days you weren't counting anymore which of course is your choice. Since I joined this site, on every chatroom you would come on and say

Hi peeps 900 days Gamble free and the next day 901 etc.

I walked that countdown with you and was so impressed with what that number meant to you and inspired me. I know it's your choice but is your number now less important to you than when you hit 1000 ? What makes one number any different to another. ? Is it tiresome at some point to call the number out ? I'm not criticising at all, just asking the questions for an answer on how you feel about it.

I do think, whatever the number is, it inspires all of us in early recovery. It shows it can be done. Adam hits 2345 tomorrow which is incredible and I'm gutted I'm at GA during the chat but will try and get on at the start of a few minutes

Hi stuart the days had more of an impact early on however i continued on even though some people was against this idea it helped me to push myself forward however within the last 6 months i have changed my focus on how i can continue on this bet free life am learning on why relapses happen and how i can prevent it from happening as i did experience this recently and i know the a million ways a relapse could happen so i need to keep an open mind

I think you have the key there Taz. Even after 1000 days or a million days, everyone needs to watch out

What if counting the days it’s not my aim and instead I try to live my life as normal and I just remember the last day I gambled as the day gambling nearly killed me and left me in an insane huge debt?

Absolutely DJ, it's a personal choice and everyone is different. I think it's like going to a meeting. It's a personal choice as to how you identify as a complaint gambler, ex gambler, in recovery or recovered, same with last bet, no declaration, date declaration or days. I'm sure you agree that everyone's journey is their own and the only thing that matters is not gambling today
