Hello everyone, been a gambler since a child 8 i knew every poker hand and played cards with the adults. 13 i was playing machines and 16 in bookmakers. I was gambling my whole wages at 18. That was when I first went to G.A I stopped for a few months but it creeped back in.. tried every method to slow down try and control or stop, but there is no way.
I've stolen things. Had all kinds of jobs. Single most of my life. I isolate myself all due to gambling and it's consequences. I was always a confident person but I'm licked now .
I'm 42 now and have never really grew up. I have a compulsive character but the root of any problem in my life is gambling it is so powerful. Last year I started reading law of attraction and self help books. Stopped gambling in till the weekend gone, it was the longest in 29 years just shy of half a year.. other problems I caused started me off this time. Luckily I stopped again after 4 days. Gambled around 1000 which didn't leave me with much left. It's not about the money
I really thought I was in control but it just shows how powerful gambling is.. I stopped again 2 days now and would Love to here any good stories on how to stay away for gooooood

Hi FIG - good news is that you’ve stopped again! The key now is barriers / hand over finances/ self exclude and gamblock on line. The good news is you can stop and one day at a time make those right decisions. I like you have had numerous goes at stopping - I read Allan Carr’s book on stopping which try’s to change your thought about gambling, it is very good and I have bought into it, and on the whole I am not missing it! I do come on hear daily or so to keep my log and read new starters! This helps keep me focused. Tomorrow I won’t gamble and that is all we can do! Keep posting

You've slipped up but don't see it negatively. You've been gamble free for a long time and reduced it a lot.

Hi 'future is great'. I'm close to 5 months now myself and the last time I played slots I had 3 months and then 3 months before that... and the sum of money you are talking about is right in the ball park of my misfortunes/ also I'm not rich either. As for wisdom, as soon as I think I have some I become looser and then a loser. Welll, we all have wisdom, lets remember that. experience ,strength and hope. If I had gone to a casino in the last day or so I could still be here sharing wisdom , strength and hope. What it is for me. What the difference is between sharing my es&h with a couple days free of slot play or months is that I simply feel more clear in my head. I think it's the mental clarity that is the greatest for me. I want more and more of that. And even though some of us may not be rich ( (I'm certainly not)), just to see some cash hanging around in the account and in the wallet, feels good. I also think that a slip does not ruin our recovery. We still have all our exp. strength hope etc. ... we just feel the effects of the addiction and the losses and that is a reminder to put up more blocks. Just felt like sharing a bit. I'm glad your here and hope you're feeling better soon odaat. You've got this! tara2
