Hello
This is my first time on here and I am at the end of my tether.... I am 51 years of age and started gambling about 11 years ago, visiting the bingo hall playing bingo only. Then about 9 years agoIi started playin the slot machines, which have taken over my life... I have lost thousands over the years. It even got to the point where losing was/ is habitual and I would just shrug off losing (almost like a coping mechanism). Today, is a turning point for me.... but I am going to find it so hard as nothing beats the adrenalin rush I get going into the bingo hall.. I cannot tell my family I have slipped back into my gambling ways and (worse than ever before)... or maybe I will when I get past this emotional turmoil... Any advise please?
Hi there and a big Welcome to you. Well done on finding this forum and admitting you have a gambling problem. Those slots are so addictive. It is the way they are designed. Nobody wins. It just looks like they win. Do you play online? If you do, you will need to self-exclude and your account will be closed. It is so hard to give up the slots but you can do it. You take it one day at a time. One hour at a time when the urges are strong. The urges will pass. This forum is full of advice and there are great success stories. Start a diary on the Recovery Section and keep posting.
Take care,
Suzy
Hi Minesadouble
Welcome to the forum and well done for posting. You will find a lot of support here and a community of people who understand your struggle with gambling please keep reading and posting on the forum.
I would encourage you to call our helpline and talk things through with a GamCare adviser on 0808 8020 133 or on our netline. The advisers can provide emotional support and helpful information as well as facilitate a referral to free one to one counselling appointments if you’d like to access that service.
Best wishes
