Im glad you are feeling good but I would say its more a quiet sense of relief when you have the blocks on and a support network.

The confidence comes in knowing that you are not breaking or bypassing blocks. I have learnt that the addiction well and truly beat me so even now I dont state any over confidence and am never complacent. When you know youve put some good blocks on you can feel a sense of relief and strength that you are taking strong measures.

I have to say Im a little worried you were in a bookies today. Thats why I may be sounding a bit harsh. You should now be self excluded from all the bookies locally and in a wider area if you travel. There is no room for half measures so take the fight on and remember what you have given to these gambling dens.

I do hope you will continue with GA and any other counselling. I hope that you can mention it to someone close.

Keep up your days free. Im just giving you some food for thought.

Best wishes

Thanks for the reply. I might sound positive but I ain't feeling it. I've tried numerous times to stop but have come to realise I really do have a problem which I have totally been in denial about, I never go in bookies it's always bingo halls and in my heart I knew my problem was getting worse I asked to ban myself and they suggest a meeting with the manager then paperwork to sign I've talked to a family member and posted on here 1st ever time on here. I wish you well. Best wishes

I understand why you said you were concerned I was in a bookies (bingo hall) I joined the forum in 2013 but thought I didn't have a problem. Continued upto now so this is the start of the journey. Thank you for taking the time to reply I really appreciate that. Your advice is extremely helpful. I wish you all the best for the future

The gf is a good start but surely you're playing with fire? You might pause for a moment and ask yourself why you felt the need to go into a bookies and followed through with it? Similarly you might remind yourself what usually happened when you went into the bookies. How can it be different next time and the time after that unless something changes about you?

GA works if you work it, the people who do work it are just like you, in the same type of mess as you and all start out by having to admit to themselves that gambling had them licked. No one at the meeting will strong arm you past the bookies and safely into the station / on to the bus. But they will give you every help to help yourself and the Orange Book has a lot of useful tips about coping. Including advice not to test yourself.

Overcoming gambling is doable, but via GA, not the bookies.

Hope you make the best choices that you can.

Hi kellie.

Dont get me wrong. I like feelings of positivity. I think I was directing that at GGGG but Im glad you posted.

Seriously self exclusion is easy. Grab that moment of pride. You may need to pop to a photo booth......... £5 for five photos but its the best fiver you will EVER spend.

Go into that Bingo place and ask for the forms which I think they must have by the counter. Dont let them delay with meeting times. There must be someone in charge on the premesis. You exclude when you want to!

You dont need to make a scene and it can be done quietly and calmly. It doesnt take long and you stress that you are not to be welcome there because you dont want to gamble anymore. Easy and its a moment of self respect like no other.

I win every day because I dont gamble...you will realise that and become very strong about it

Seriously what did they ever offer you but the devious temptation to clean your bank balance out.?? What did they ever offer you but misery?? Im telling you that the fun went decades ago for me if it ever was. "When the fun stops"....I dont think the "fun" ever really started!!

Best wishes from everyone on the forum

There's only 1 good reason to be in the bookies & that's if you work there. GA doesn't stop you gambling, working the program helps you to. Jacking it in & being in the bookies thinking you have it Sussex after 40 days sounds a lot like you are letting addiction gear you up for a relapse. Pride comes before a fall GGGG, get off the train before it crashes!

Thank you so much for your advice I did find the self exclude information online and expecting a call in the next day or two. Also spoken to family that I can trust and realised how bad my addiction has become. I'm self excluding myself and your right only thing this has lead too is more and more misery and yes the fun did stop long before today. I've felt positive today and know In the past I've felt I can do it on my own I now know I can't. Your advise is helping more than you know. Will keep you posted on the exclusion from the bingo halls ( where it all started) Thank you for taking the time to post I always thought I was alone in this but already feeling more deterermined. Your right there's no shame in exclusion if anything it's a step in the right direction. A big step in the right direction. It's made myself totally miserable but I'm ready for this fight. Thank you

No shame in ga or any other help available grab it with both hands .We committed ourselves to gambling why not our own recovery??I was never one to always take advice on board hence me being here but slowly I think more clearly both with ga and gamcare so look forward to the future remaining gf but will continue no questions asked a better life and wellbeing is my motivation everything else is a bonus . focus on what works for each individual but the goal remains the same .good luck people
