Hi I just wanted some advice for my son who is 25 & has probably been gambling for 2 years . His behaviour has been  extremely scary over the past 12 months . Currently he isn’t in any debt as we have helped him pay off his pay day loans ( by controlling his wage ) but he manages to gamble all of his wage . the once happy go lucky boy is irritable, manipulative & unable to sleep / rest . The dopamine effect he gets from gambling is just too big . He has been a performance athlete but has no interest in what was once his passion. He has had a professional diagnosis of adhd but refuses to take his medication .
my question is after a fairly stressy12 months shall we just kick him out . We are all truly sick of him . He is an adult & I don’t think he wants to stop so what is the point.
the only hope is that he gives up his job & seeks rehab

it’s just so exhausting.

i was hoping my life at this stage should be relaxing & enjoying mine & my husbands  life with adult children rather than babysitting.
sorry to sounds agreeable but I just can’t understand addiction when you lose everyone & everything

Hi Kate,

Thanks for posting on the GamCare forum and letting us know what is happening, You’ve described a really difficult situation and it sounds hard for all of you.

I wonder if you would like to get some 12-1- support from a practitioner who can support you in this. You can find local help here: Find local support - GamCare. We also run an online group for women affected by someone else’s gambling, you can read more about it here, including how to contact the team who runs the group : Way Forward: Virtual Support Group for Women - GamCare.

All the best

Jane
