Hello this is the first time I've been able to write about my gambling. I've read a few stories and believe that mine hasn't reached the stage of some of you but if I don't stop now then it will. I'm 24 have a great job and life. I should have £1000's saved and enough money to move out from my parents but instead Ive choose to gamble! Basically I broke my foot 3 years ago and saw the adverts on TV and was bored as I was off work. I played these sites and won £100 which was great! But a few months later after my leg was better I found hmyself gambling still!! I won £4000 which was amazing and had it transferred to my bank. But this was the start of my addiction. The buzz of winning £4000 was amazing and wasn't long before the £4000 was back into the gambling accounts. I recently opened up to my mum as I got myself into my over draft of £1500 and couldnt pay it off. My parents lent me the money and I was fine for about 8 months. But I've just fallen back into gambling again. As my self exclusions were all for 6months so I could access the sites again!! I've asked for perement exclusion now!! Im also £800 in my over draft and have asked for a £1000 loan. I've never had to get a loan before but I can't tell my mum that I've gone back into my overdraft im embarrassed and ashamed. I was devestated before having to lend money from my parents but this time I've got myself into this mess so Ive sorted it with my bank got a loan and taken my overdraft away!! I want my own place and to save so hopefully I will do this now! Feels so good writing all this down! Please if you have advice xx
Well done for finding this site you will get a lot of help and support on here.
The main thing is your only reletively young , at 24 you have admitted the problem and you will now take action to prevent any further slips.
The main thing to do is self exclude for life once you have done this the bookies cannot un-do what you have requested they do , when I life excluded I felt like a huge weight was lifted.
The worst thing that you can do is win a massive amount , I wont £4500 and felt on top of the world , however within a week id given most of it back , that is when I came on here and got help.
I promise you this , please start a diary of your recovery , consider the free couselling gamcare offer , it isn't as scary as it sounds and chose the path of recovery for your own sanity.
You have your whole life ahead of you if I had stopped at 24 I would have my own house and a much brighter future than it currently looks.
Hi our story's are very simlar! I'm 25,should have a lot more saved, scared to tell anyone and also felt a lot better after telling people for the 1st time!(last week)one way I've saved money is I set up a standing order every month for a Scottish widows ICA so that way I'm saving but can't acess the money without phone call and written letter! Maybe try something like that? If you put enough away each month you'll have enough to move out in no time! All the best Vanessa!
Thank you so much for the suppport! I feel happier and will defiantly do the diary! I've self exluded from every single site! And don't have the urge to gamble, feel like there's more to my life then this!! Need to go out have fun and enjoy my wages instead of wasting the money and getting nothing! this site is amazing makes me feel like I'm not alone x
Hi Vanessa welcome back to what may well be the start of the rest of your life 🙂
I don't know how much you've read & whether you know that there are gambling blockers out there...I don't gamble online so can't vouch for any of them but I have heard that K9 is free!
Well done for working out how to get out of the financial mess without your parents but be sure to actually cancel your overdraft, otherwise you may find yourself in the same position all over again, taking out bigger loans!
You did brilliantly before so chalk this up to a blip, put everything behind you & start moving forwards again!
