Hi All,

Ive decided to come clean with myself about my gambling habit.Hard as it is its got to stop!

I was on the slots till 4am this morning as im off work.Spent far too much and feel depressed, guilty and ashamed.Nobody knows how much i spend on these things and that i even use them.My girlfreind knows nothing as she does not live with me so the nights she is not here i gamble!

Hope i can stop this as it is a bad disease!

Thanks.

John.

Hi zappaZ. Well done for taking first steps to admitting it's a problem. We are all here for the same reason and to support each other. Have a read through other people's posts and diaries, it helps to get some ideas on wot works for others. The first thing to do is get a block on your.comp and devices so that you can't gamble online. The second thing is to consider telling someone close. I know u feel ashamed but u really need help and support and depending how bad you are you need someone to help control your finances. Iv found my gambling gets really out of control when I'm scared of meeting financial commitments that were caused in any case through gambling! If debt is an issue, then contact your creditors to have payments reduced and make a payment plan. When u have control of your finances u will feel more in control of yourself and your gambling. Finally, try not to be too hard on yourself. Compulsive gambling is an addiction and you should be proud of yourself for seeking help. I wish you well in your journey x

Thanks for the advice jw1976,I have told my girlfreind tonight and feel better in myself.I have also put a block on the casino i was using so cant go on there....Am i correct in assuming that this is like an alcoholic so no more gambling of any kind?

Just that i have the odd lucky 15 which costs £3 about twice a month.Unlike the £200 to £300 i used to waste on the slots.

Thanks for the support.

Hi Zappaz,

The way I see it and the only way I can operate is to give up gambling full stop. Any half measures would leave me open to huge temptation.

I'v got everything blocked online. My poison was mainly horses and football with a small amount of roulette thrown in.

Others may post on this thread as well giving their opinions.

Take Care Now.

I think the problem would be if you won......what would you realistically do with the winnings??

I personally would see it as a green light to go "well I hadn't accounted to win x amount so I will put that on x bet, or in the fruity" and then that leaves you open to "it's had x amount, surely a little bit more and it will turn"

I have found in previously failed attempts to quit that I just needed a spark, an excuse, to get back in there.

I cannot win because I cannot stop.

It's hard, so hard, I find it difficult to know the value of money.....I won't let myself buy a decent bit of clobber for £200 but would throw that and a pair of trainers in a fruity without a care in the world (until after) .....so I personally have set a date and when I make it there will go and buy something, maybe try the same, or a night away with the missus to say thanks.

i think cold turkey is the best way forward!!

Take each day at a time, wishing ya the best!!!
