Hi, I am 19 and have had a problem with gambling since I was 16, it used to be a couple of scratch cards and lottery then horse racing but worst of all the fobt and blackjack online and at the casino! I feel really selfish as I was keeping it to myself and not telling anyone hiding my bank statements and so on until my mum found out! I then stopped for a month and that was ok but now I do £10 a week but she said no casinos and I have been to a casino and feel so bad as I have let her down! 🙁 I just think of the money I could walk out with as I am short of money I think it is a quick fix like £50 to £100 a couple of times and that will be ok but I feel so bad each time I put the bet down and so guilty that I am now lying to her and say I'm just out with friends bowling, cinema ect. But I am really chucking money down the drain! It's only around £50 each time but only twice and that's £100 and it needs to stop!!! Could someone just give me some advice as I want to gamble but not in casinos or large amounts only around £10-£20 week max and then I find myself in the bookies thinking of blackjack on the fobt! When just in there to do a race could I have some advice as still want to do a little but not get carried away and think of it as a big money maker just as a little something instead of the lottery!

Also I know now I am getting greedier and won't stop til I have at least made money for example I went into the casino with £55 played BJ for around 2 hrs got to £75 thought yeah doing well so put £20 bet and then walked away I then thought let's try 3 card brag as I have never tried that and lost £15 so had £40 I thought oh s**t I have now lost £15 so before I know it I am sat at the BJ table and ended up losing the £40 and felt so sick as only have £20 in the bank until I get paid in 2 1/2 weeks! Feel so stupid! Started off onlie as I put £50 in and won £700 and then ended up losing that and my first time in a casino I took £80 and got upto around £500 in 2 hours and thought lets do the £1000 this is easy money and then lost the £500 and got around £250 out the cash point and I will never forget that!! Feel stupid now not taking that!!

Hi Spanner7039, welcome 🙂

But, bad news I'm afraid buddy, I don't think this is something you will be able to control (I was hoping to too)...The only way win @ gambling is to stop! You are so young with your whole life ahead of you, you must find a way to stop this madness now or you will end up in the same lousy gutter that most of us already on here ended up! There is no such thing as easy money & even if you win one day, you will always put it back & more another because you are a compulsive gambler I'm afraid & you cannot win because you cannot stop! I would suggest you start by self excluding! Hopefully you can get some other ideas from reading through the posts but it is important to break the Time-Money-Location triangle as gambling needs all 3 so just taking just 1 away will stop you!

Work hard & you can do this - ODAAT

I agree the only option is to stop before spending gets to big! I used to do the same at your age small bets and walk out with £100 id be happy. Now I'm lucky if I walk in the casino and walk out £500 down! I won't walk out with anything unless it's over £1000. It's a vicious cycle but £20 here will only lead to another £20 then another £20 before you know it your throwing huge amounts away! As your addiction grows so will your greed and your bets will become much bigger! My advise is try to stay clear of gambling before it does to much damage. All the best

Spanner your are displaying signs of compulsive gambling and your only option just now is too stop. Give yourself a breather and give it a rest for say 6 months. You may well have a different view then and may well control it however my experience says unlikely. Nearly 30 yrs have past for me now starting at 15 spendind virtually every spare penny ive had and how i wish i could turn back the clock to that first bet...i would run a mile. I'm still fighting this battle...do yourself a favour and quit now and dont have a lifetime of regret like me.

Stay strong and make the right decision.

Yeah you are right just £20 can soon turn into £100 as you think you will win back your £20 and before you know it you are £100 down wish I never started this fools game really!!
