Hello...

My situation-

So, whilst I didn't think I had previously, it hardly quickly become apparent that I've got an addictive personality and am a very driven to make money by any legal means. I work in a target driven sales environment and earn good money for my age. Whilst the drive to earn money is great whilst at work, that attitude has now carried across to my personal life. I find myself coming home from work and gambling to try and make more money. I've even started to occasionally bet on online casinos at lunch whilst working.

When I'm winning, of course it's great, but when I lose I don't know when to stop. The reason I've signed up for this forum today is because I've literally just lost £2000 on online gambling websites.

Any advice to help me towards completely quiting would be great.

Also I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way you could set up a debit card block to known gambling websites. I'm not sure if uk banks offer such a facility.

I've tried closing betting accounts but then end up opening other accounts on different sites.

My betting would decline by 99% If I could implement such a block because I very rarely go to betting shops. The problem is the convenience of online gambling and the ability to deposit 1000s with a few clicks !!

Please help!

James, open a bank account with Citibank. They do not allow gambling transactions from your account.

there are too many companies who do online gambling so self exclusion could take a very long time to achieve. As long as you do the immediate ones you have been playing.

At some point you will also have to address the problem that you have because it wont go away on its own. You need to WANT to stop gambling. You have to accept responsibility for it and let go your loses. Never chase them. Your hard earned money is gone. start a diary record your thoughts, feelings, decisions. learn your triggers and your signs. Read through peoples diaries. It all helps.

All the best

Kyle

The greatest win I will ever have is to learn I will never win gambling

Hi James,

I'm sure others will say the same but I would recommend downloading a software blocker of some description. K9 seems to get good reports (and is free) but you will need someone else to create the password for you or you can just over-ride it.

I have betfilter on my pc and am finding it to be really good. Think it was about £40 (charges in dollars) which I was reluctant to spend thinking 'I can't afford that' which is of course totally stupid when you consider I'd happily lose hundreds of £s without even thinking about it.

Another on I see recommended is Gamblock but personally I tried this on my phone and it totally corrupted it so I wouldn't try it on my PC.

You do have to want to stop but putting blocks in place will make it much much easier if your will power is wavering as I am finding mine to be at the moment. I'm missing my slots games and the 'bonus' rounds but am not missing the sinking feeling when I re-bet everything I've won and end up losing a whole lot of money.

Best of luck 🙂
