Hi there. I really need heIp and advice please. I have posted a few times on here before. Long story short, I am in over £20k debt from online slots gambling. I can go short while without gambling and KNOW that it's a mugs game and every single reason why I don't want to do it anymore, but after a week or so I just physically CANNOT stop myself from having "one more go"

I have access to an iPad, and an android device and I desperately want to put blocks in place. I have self excluded from about 40 sites but I always find new ones, so a block is the only answer. I put restrictions on my iPad with the general restrictions settings but it doesn't block gambling (I also threw away the restrictions code so I couldn't change the settings).

I also know about the money time location triangle. The location will never change, and there will always be the time before I go bed. I just want some way of stopping me from accessing ANY gambling whatsoever. I wish bet filter did a version for iPad.

PLEASE can anyone help me??? I'm desperate to stop. xxxx

thanks Zoe but Gamblock doesn't work on iPad. I wish there was a way of blocking because it would solve all my problems. I had Gamblock on my PCs when I had one and it was the only thing that helped. xx

One simple solution get rid of the ipad.

I'm sure some will say it's essential, but is it really.

Another option put a parental lock on it and chuck away the made up password.

Someone who really want to quit will do whatever it takes.

thank you all. Great advice. I think ordering a new debit card and blocking out the 3 digits on the back is a great idea. I also have a photograph of a long list of reasons not to gamble as my screensaver. as desperate measures I listened to hypnosis on you tube last night!!!! I really really want to stop so badly. xx

Hi ihategambling

I'm sorry to hear about what's been happening, and well done for taking the step to self-exclude from those sites. I can see you've had some useful advice from others already.

As someone has suggested, K9 is a free app which you can download onto your iPad to block online gambling. For your android device you can try Gamblock or Betfilter. More information about blocking software can be found here: http://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-advice/what-can-you-do/blocking-software

You may also want to consider swapping your debit card for a cash card, which would mean that you would then be unable to make any online transactions at all. This is often termed a 'basic bank account' and some banks offer this service so it would be worth finding out if yours does.

You mentioned being in debt, and I can imagine that addressing that is a priority. If you haven't accessed any help already then I would recommend calling the following organisations to find out what help they can offer;

Stepchange: 0800 138 1111

The National Debtline: 0808 808 4000

PayPlan: 0800 280 2816

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you all the best and hope things can improve for you soon. If after making these practical changes your gambling is still a problem, do get back to us and we can offer further support and talk to you about face-to-face help that may be available near you. Both the Helpline and Netline are open daily from 8am - midnight and contact details can be found at the top of each page on our website.

Best wishes

Laura

Hi

Is there anybody close? You need to discuss it again and fully focus that the gambling companies should never have been allowed access to your gadgets and your home.

Think of the shame of it and the fact they are selling you a drug and a dream which creates addicts.

You are in a full grip of a full blown addiction which has pushed reality out of the window.

There is a way...you come clean about the fear and respect that a gambling addiction deserves. That actually means no more i pads or smart phones for you until you are healthy in the mind....sounds tough ...its because I actually care about the people on here

Seriously it means controlled access to your computers and full monitoring. It means counselling to see why you think its an activity worth spending time on. You are ignoring the odds and think its a money making scheme. One more go when you know what its done in the past.

Im sorry but the reality is that you havent yet been ready to face the full cold turkey that is required in the early stages

If you are looking for new sites the controls arent strong enough and you will always relapse. Shut the access down completely and give yourself time to really think and get help in thinking it through.

Its a form of mind control and you need to realise how much your own mind can control you in the most irresponsible thing you can do with money.

Being gamble free is a lovely feeling.

Best wishes from everyone on the forum
