Hello my name is Liam and I’m 24 and over this weekend I realised I have an addiction to online slots. I was introduced to gambling at a young age always heading to the pub with my father. I never really noticed my addiction until I almost lost my Partner and my step son to it this weekend.

it got to the point I was spending shopping money and what ever else I could get my hands on just to get a win not thinking about them and then we’d starve. I need help, this is a big step for me as I want to stop this addiction and live a life with happiness and not having to lie or hide money. Every time I lost i put more on thinking I was going to win then after I lost everything I just felt guilty and depressed.

i appreciate any advice you could give me.

Hello LiamEU,

Welcome to the Forum,

Well done for making your first post with us. You are sadly not alone if you have experienced the high and low moods that come with the gambling cycles. It sounds like your motivation to change is to be happy, healthy and secure again for yourself and your family.

Recognising those cycles and putting some blocks in place should help you to stop gambling. Some restriction on places of gambling and access to money as a strategy going forward. It sounds like you have told your partner recently so you can involve them in your recovery journey.

Wishing you some peer support comments here soon,

Louise
