Hi. New to gamcare and taken this step to be rid of gambling altogether. I've been gambling about 10yrs, on and off but its spiralled out of control these past few months where I have literally nothing left after pay day. I still think about recent losses and struggle to deal with them, thinking about what I could have done with the money. Have all the blocks in place and distractions but just gets me down that I have let it happen again.

Hi Del,

That's one of the main things I struggle to deal with as well, not just with money, but with people and relationships that I've messed up as well! It does get easier, I gambled on and off for 10 years as well and I'm now 1 month gamble free - actually having everything blocked this time and not hiding some way to have a gamble does feel different this time! Time will heal the losses and pain, just focus on staying gambling free and I'm sure the rest will sort itself out, thats what I'm trying to tell myself anyway!

Good luck on your journey,

Shaw

Thanks Shaw. Yes relationships too, get eaten up by it that much you forget what's important around you.

Good Luck on your journey too

Sometimes you have to hit a very low point to motivate yourself and enforce change. Its good that you have put the physical blocks in place. If you can alter your perception, instead of worrying about what you have lost and what you could have spent money on, think about what you want to spend your next payslip on.

Its a weird feeling when you do stop gambling, you almost feel like you are rich, you never had that money sitting in your bank before!

Have you run up a load of debt? Or were you just losing all of your wages?

In my situation I run up a huge debt, but I have spoken to stepchange who set up a debt management plan. It freezes all the interest on your debts and you fill out an income and expenditure form. You only pay what you can afford after setting aside money to continue a decent acceptable life. Having that structure really helps with your finances.

@hl19a0tfpn Hi. Yes you are right sometimes you have to hit a low to realise and take action. I have some debt to pay back but I think i can sort that over the next 12 months. I know I will have struggles along the way but got the barriers in place. Thank you for the advice.
