Hi, I've finally realised I need help and fast. I've been a gambler since I was around 17, im now 25 and it's got considerably worse. I've just moved into a house with my partner who's expecting our first child in July. Today has been the final straw for me as ive just been paid and lost over half my monthly income (the rent money included). I feel lost, my partner and family don't deserve this. My workplace is in the Belfast City Centre so it's close to alot of bookmakers and that's my downfall. There have been a few times ive stopped for a few months at a time but my Last two stints I've lost £600 and now the guts of £700. Roulette would be my main problem, I do bet on horses and dogs aswell but I've realised this can't go on and I'm looking to get help asap so I can get on the straight and narrow and provide for my partner and our baby.

I have done the same as you I have been gambling for 6 years now. I am now 5 days free from gambling it's not easy I have a 1 and a 3 year old and a lovely wife. I take a picture of them around with me so if I feel like going to the bookies I look at the photo and think of my girls and wife. Maybe if you take a scan picture with you it may help you. You have so much to look forward to with the baby I wish you luck and stay strong. Dean

Hi DK7 - Well done for joining us on the site - you have made a good decision and here you'll find lots of good advice and understanding.

There are people here more knowledgeable than me re. betting shops, but I believe you can self-exclude from them - do it now!

Also if you ever bet online, self-exclude from all the sites you use and install blocking software such as K9. You owe it to yourself, your partner and baby on the way to put all this behind you and start afresh, and believe me, a new baby can be expensive! Best wishes to you and your future responsible fatherhood.

Joanna
