Hey, ive only found this site in the past week or so and have just commented on some other peoples stories, cant belive how similar they are to mine!

So I pretty much bet purely on football, luckily im not stupid enough to bet on other sports I dont know about! About 6 ish yrs ago I had my first 'big' loss, it pretty much started when I began working away from home, spending a lot of time in hotels, so i guess gambling filled my time. I lost about 4k in the space of 2 days, basically all my savings. At the time that had a pretty big affect on me & i came clean about everything to my parents, they were pretty upset but understood, i didnt gamble for a while after that.

Then in the last 2 yrs I took voluntary redundancy from work and got a pretty good package, about 16k. I managed to get a new job straight away, in munich, better money and all expenses paid, so was in a position to save loads.

First 6 months there i was just doing normal stake betting & doing ok, but the stupid thing about me is I never know when to stop and never cashout my winnings and guess what I lost everything in my account. So then i thought i would use my redundancy money to get it back, im sure u can guess what happened next. Like other people have said it was going up & down, but mainly down. I was down to about 5k, but was on a really good run, had nearly made all my losses back up in my account. But then it happened, I can still remember it now, I was one win away from cashing out & everything was going to be fine again. Some stupid late sunday night south american game that I knew nothing about, i lost everything again. I then just went crazy and was bettign stupid stakes chasing my losses. All my redundancy money went, every month all my wages go trying to hit that target amount i have in my head that makes things sound not so bad. I have come close recently but again lost everything.

Last month I was due to go on holiday but eventually realised i cant afford it, i have literally nothing in my bank account, so again I had to tell the parents everything. They thought I was still under control of everything and could not believe what I told them, was a very hard conversation, luckily they were understanding and leant me money on the promise I would never touch betting again. This was just before the world cup, you can imagine how hard that was to watch and not being able to bet! I did it though! But now the football season is back on, ive started again.

Basically in the last year and a half ive lost about 25k, maybe more. The problem is i enjoy it and dont feel ready to stop, even though i know i have to! Its like i have a target amount in my head that I need to reach before i can cashout and try to give up, but even if i do reach this target im dont know if I will stop or not!

sorry if ive rambled on a bit

Yuk-those dodgy late night Argentinian and Brazilian games! I remember watching a whole game once on a Sunday, work following day. I backed goals and I was just hoping they would come in sooner so I cold get to sleep! Was so silly thinking back. Why wouldn't we just wait till the following day or week to bet? Addiction is terrible.

It sounds like you need to admit u have a problem (like I have now) and want to not bet anymore. I notice not once did u mentioned u ever wanted to stop until now. It sounds like u have a good career tho, so u should try and focus on that.

All the best.

I used to watch these late night games too. Randomly betting and consistently losing and being sooo tired the next day.

Im only on day 2 but something that may help is watching a series. Get a box set and just watch and watch. It keeps your mind thinking about something else

yes those bloody brazilian, chilian, peruvian, etc games, making u stay up to the early hours Sunday night.

I remember id done u5.5 goals, was 0-0 at half time & the 2nd half was mental, last 5 mins it was on 5 goals & then flares were thrown on the pitch & im thinking please call the game off! But it didnt & there were like 3 goals in added time, about 6k down the drain, and for what? Then you go to sleep feeling absolutely awful & it makes Monday morning even worse than it already is!

yes, mba I got the breaking bad box set earlier in the year and your right I got pretty addicted to that for a while, makes you forget there are football games going on while your watching. Ive finsihed that now though, maybe I should look for a new one.
