Hi everyone ive joined here as i have nowhere else to turn. Ive had a gambling addiction for just over a year. Its xmas eve and yet again ive registered with a new online casino and smashed 350 quid in about 5 mins. Last week done the same. I told my fiance about the problem earlier this year it hurt her and she wanted to help but i convinced her and myself at the time i was over it. but now ive fell back in and too scared to tell. Im not in any debt and i still have money and a decent job. So im glad ive caught this problem as early as i have. I dont know how to stop it but im hoping this site can help me. I have banned myself from the (hundreds) of bookies in my area and self excluded from every casino website i can find. Thanks for reading this any help would be apreciated

Hi GM, and welcome to the site. Firstly, you've made the correct decision at the right time to visit this forum. So, good thinking!

Now, it's time for some straight talking.

Whilst you have banned yourself from these odious online casinos, new ones pop up all the time. So you are always chasing your tail getting nowhere fast. So, you need software that keeps up with the new ones. K9 is a good one, in fact search the forums and you'll find the details. Install the software and 'forget' the password (you don't ever want to undo the settings). Install the software on ALL your devices.

Ok, we have some practical measures in place. Now for a moment of truth.

You need to stop this nonsense forever. From today. Because if you don't get off this train, your life will be hell. I can tell from your post you can see where you're headed. You are already deceiving your fiancГ© and your personality is starting to turn unpleasant. You see, when you are a compulsive gambling addict, you get anxious as you try to hide and rationalise your losses, right? Time for the real, relaxed, pleasant 'you' to come back - and fast.

It's not just the money you waste when you gamble (and you're going through it, mate...), it's the time you're wasting and your reputation you're losing too. It's the very definition of misery.

So, it's time to stop. From today. No more. This is Day 1. Think about it, you're giving money to a soulless computer program! You are always going to lose more than you win, so stop chasing shadows.

Now, GM, you're doing this nonsense for a reason. Why not phone Gamcare up, or consider counselling or attending a group. Might be worth getting to the bottom of this!

I hope this helps you to consider the position you're in, and what you can do. And the good news is - you can, and will! Keep seeking guidance here too, we'll keep you on the straight and narrow.

Sorry about the lack of Christmas cheer, but this is serious, you know that. Do have a good Christmas though 🙂

Evening buddy,

Well, can I just say you are me 12 months ago! I came here back then, had lost at that point £1800 quid on a short term gambling "problem". I went to counselling, did some vague blockers and decided enough was enough! Worked for a bit then early February I went mental and lost another three grand as blocks were not good enough and underestimated this out of control addiction that I had developed over the short term.

I'm messaging because it's so great you've admitted a problem, and great that you want to do something about it! You've got some great advice above. Really use it. I did the router blocks, K9, credit card blocks, self exclusion, no dry gambling, filled my time with lesuire pursuits, met new people, confided in friends. I did all of this on a major level and have been gamble free for 325 days. The thing is.........it's a short term problem for you, no debt, fiancГ©, great future ahead. You MUST nip it in the bud! Fast forward for me 10 and a bit months, well I too have a fiancГ© who knows about my gambling demons, I have just bought my own house and have a kid on the way. Gambling doesn't get a look in, it's a past problem.

Ask yourself what is more important?? An amazing future with a wonderful partner or gambling? What does gambling get you? A false reality when you are winning you think you are up but are secretly harbouring a massive secret. An altered sense of reality, massive lows, secrecy, time better spent with loved ones and a future to be proud of. I prefer knowing my financial situation from honest hard work, not some false highs and unexpected lows. Gambling gives you nothing but misery. Nearly a year clean for me confirms that and now I don't have the same blocks, I just actively hate gambling and the industry. I mean I saw a guy leave a bookies when I was out buying bread and milk the other day. He walked funny, threw his betting slip into the bin, screamed, hit his car then wheel spinned off! That is what gambling does to you, it's progressive, it gets bigger over time and it's a nightmare! I was doing £28 spins at one point when I wouldn't spend £28 on food shopping for the WEEK! Time is a healer, don't ever gamble! Nip it in the bud like I did! I only ever gambled four times online! Two big wins, two times losing the winning plus more.

I like the straight talking in the reply above, but I like my reality! Soon to be wife, kid, own house! None of it possible if I was still gambling! Reality! Do the right thing.

Regards, Abet!
