never thought ill be posting here at all but had saved a another site and then i spoke to game care about a year ago on here and on the phone

so ive been trying to change and just stop for good i lost a family member end of last year and ended up going out alot drinking and gambleing im not sure if you can use the drinking here but the drinking sets the gambleing off

i had been good for about 21 days in december ive been keep telling myself im not gonna gamble anymore but i wanted to see a local band in town i asked most of my friends to come out and they all busy i was looking forward to this nite but as i was drinking i just gambled ok i dont do betting football its just the fruit machines and the new sceen ones lost about *** heard some of the music was good but didnt want to do the gambleing bit so after that i stopped again for a few weeks around 21 last month i got very drunk and did it again some other town this time

resenty just after my birthday 2 but each time its when ive had a few beers when i dont drink i dont do it i think its kind of life smoking and drinking

tuesday this week  gone a friend ask me to come for his birthday they left early i still had a couple of pints and yes spent about *** again im unsure if i have a big problem and need to seek help or is it a case of just not drinking at all or leaving money at home and just taking like £10 out for a evening it would be nice to be free from gambling for good and drink less ive been going to church on sundays and its really helped me get on the right track but when i get days off in the week i seen to get rather board and just go off and drink etc i do save money as well but i would like to go on a good hoilday this year i want to STOP for good. im unsure if anyone else is in the same boat as me  ive never shared my story before i wanted to find if anyone else has a system in place and its worked for them

Dear @jono3000,

Thank you for your recent post on our forum. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Family member last year, this must have been an incredibly painful and difficult  time for you. Many people find they turn to gambling due to a traumatic event, it would be very beneficial for you to look at other ways to help you come to terms with your loss instead of gambling.

Perhaps making an appointment with your GP would be beneficial  to you? You GP can give you extra support with your physical and mental health, they can also discuss any options available to help you come to terms with the loss of your loved one such as talking therapy if you feel this would help? They may also be able to give advice around the excessive drinking if you feel this has now become a problem for you?

Please remember that you’re not alone in this, our forum community is very supportive so please continue to keep accessing it. You may also find our live chatroom helpful, you can access these via our GamCare website from 1pm until 2pm and then again at 8pm until 9pm. We also have an extended session every Sunday with a later closing time of 21:30pm.

If you would like to talk further then please call our helpline on 0808 8020 133 or access our Netline (web chat) via our GamCare website. We’re open day and night so you can always reach us or alternatively you can email your details to our forum inbox and we will arrange a call back to you.

You can overcome problem gambling and go on to live a gamble free life. We’re here every step of the way for you. We can suggest different coping strategies and perhaps a free referral for some support counselling sessions would help you too?

Kindest Regards

Joanne
