Hello all.. My name is daniel and im 20 years old. Ive been working ever since I was 16. I'm currently 3 months away from my 21st birthday and I'm in a bad way.
Everyday since I've been 18 ive gambled. I now have a really good job at the nhs. I'm from a lower class background . Everyday friday I gamble my entire wage, and ive got myself into 11000 pound debt. (Payday loans) ive managed to pay off 10500 pounds and only have 500 left to pay off. Every week I live off ten pound, and it's killin me. Sometimes I don't even buy food Because Id rather gamble. recently I thought I was getting better as I was understanding the value of money a bit better. I was going to start saving, and buying stuff for myself. Ive been working for years and have nothing to show for it, not even a TV. please can somebody help. Ive tried everything and ive lost everything, my girlfriend, my friends. Sometimes I wish I could close my eyes and not wake up. Does anyone have any advice for me as Id really be grateful.
I wish you all success and a swift recovery.
Dan
Hello Dan
How would you feel about getting some counselling? gamcare offer it why not give them a call?
Hi Daniel
Have you got somebody who can take control of your finances for a period of time? If you can restrict your access to money, you will find it harder to gamble. Take away the temptation. Don't carry any money on you that you don't need. eg. carry bus fare to and from work but no more.
GA and counselling are 2 good options for you. Advice and support is readily available and you are going to need both if you are going to beat the addiction.
Have you told your family? They will also be able to offer you support and help along the way.
Take care
hi mate, the bottom line is you have to help yourself, theres no one on here who can type you out of being a gambler, they can offer sound advice and share their experiences but thats all, you need to keep in the right frame of mind, look how far you have come from 11,000 debt to just 500 left, what a waste it would be to get back up to 5 figures of debt? and you have the biggest thing going for you, your age, im currently 25 and still sitting around 10k of debt, what i would give to be back to your age with £500 of debt, that would be like a fresh start for me, don't throw it all away while you still have the chance to keep on the right track and sort out your problems, self exclude from as many sites as you can, maybe even get rid of your internet for a month or 2 if it is necessary. Pick out something you want like a tv or games console and have a goal in mind to save for, instead of just having money kicking around waiting to be wasted. Good luck.
