I totally agree that we do have to stop completely but looking back, being able to cancel withdrawals was the start of my problem and probably many others. When u have time out from the gambling binge it's easier to step back. In the midst of it we will spend every penny we have access to and the betting sites well know this. It has to be outlawed as there will be more and more people coming to this site and suffering a similar fate. I'm not excusing our addiction but it starts from somewhere and in many cases it's chasing losses or wins we gave back. There is no excuse whatsoever to give customers the option of cancelling a withdrawal no matter how long they claim they process takes to do x
Got a text from my bank to say my account was very low, logged on and finally all the payments to a certain site have come out...leaving me very much in the red...overdraft swallowed up too.
I wish i made a different choice last Sunday but what's done is done..will be a big struggle financially for the next year or so.
We as gamblers really don't help ourselves do we!
I agree there should be no delay in the withdrawal process, I too fell into this trap and lost all the money and I won and more so.
What would help the CG who isn't seeking advice to stop (and there are lots of these) would be to delay the payment, not so we can re gamble it but so it is almost like a self exclusion, make it a day. Then we would be out of the mould of gambling in that moment. This may help some.
I'm not saying it is the answer but anything to help to CG not ploughing it all back in and losing has to be a step.in the right direction.
Typical, I had some money on shares which i took out to feed this horrible addiction...they have really shot up since.
I guess it's another form of gambling at the end of the day and I should avoid that too.
Hi JT002
First of all well done on recognising you have a problem.
Secondly i understand what you are saying regarding the withdrawl time however in reality as a problem gambler whether the money is in your bank in 5 minutes or 5 days you are likely to gamble it all away, maybe not instantly but over time. I think all of us compulsive gamblers have tried hiding money or putting money to one side or in a savings account etc.. For me i did this many a time but always returned to gamble this away, no matter how good i tried to be.
I know you have quit before for 4 years which is a great acheivement. However as you are aware a relapse is all too easy no matter how hard we try but in reality our will power alone is not enough. Have you considered going to GA?
I gambled for 10 years racked up massive debt, lied to everyone and eventually lost my job due to gambling. I started going going to GA in January and now over 100 days gamble free. It really can provide the knowledge and support needed to help manage this illness and most important keep you vigilante to any possible relapse in the future.
Good luck on your journey and remeber 'For today i will not gamble'
I remember winning £500 and withdrawing it, then spending the rest of the money in my account and realising that I could reverse that £500. So I reversed it and then lost all of that too! But I agree with what people are saying, it doesn't matter if it withdrew that £500 because I would have probably ended up gambling that too. Chasing your losses is definitely the worst thing you can do (Right, I'm £100 down, but if I put another £50 on a 3/1 shot then I'll be £50 up! Oh well...that lost too, I'll try £20 on that first goalscorer, that'll bring me back up to £10 up. Yes! I'm £10 up! But If I put my winnings on that team to win, then I'll be £300 up!! s**t...They lost, I'm £170 down again...)
After such a big loss a few weeks ago I thought i would attempt to chase some back today...well you all know how this ended.
The money i gambled today just felt like nothing at the time, reality is it's just making things worse.
Need to beat this addiction, find something else to occupy my mind from what feels like the boring everyday.
Fell off the wagon again.
Quick one on K9 guys, i cannot get it to block even when im using custom settings for gambling. Any ideas?
Hey JT i checked this out after you responded to my thread. First thing id say is dont think of it as losing the winnings and your initial deposits.. Just the net loss, Weve all been up, weve all certainly been way down. Should you have cashed out when you were £13,000 up? Possibly yeah.. But ask yourself.. Should you have cashed out when you were £7,000 up? If i asked you now obviously youd say yes but you worked it up another £6k.. There is no right or wrong as it is all completely random. When you were up to 13K i bet you were feeling great, spending the money in your head before you lost it.. Another £2K and its a holiday? Then things go downhill.. under £10K and your happy with a £5K win.. end up with 5 and youre happy with 2... down to 2 and you just cant be bothered anymore and bang its all gone. Ive done it myself, admittedly on horses, and at the time youre in a little bubble.. nothing matters, no need for food, no need for TV.. but once its over there is no lower. No money for rent, no money for food, cant go out with your mates to the pub. The way i see it, youve got to want to stop. You see i have said to people in the past 'yeah im gonna give up, thats me' or 'Im never stepping into the bookies again' but the fact is - theres hundreds of different betting websites, casinos, shops, apps and even if you wanted to you couldnt ban yourself from every single one.. aslong as you have a bank card youll find somewhere to do it if youre not committed to giving up. The way i did it before was to put a physical value to the money in my bank/wallet/pocket.. 'That £200 is to buy my nieces and nephews christmas presents' 'this £40 is for me to buy a new pair of trainers'.. Choose life.. Being truthful to your family and enoying having nice things is better than staring at a computer screen and having a zero bank account. It sounds like were in a very similar position both with wasting money that we dont have and that we are not truthful to the ones that in the end.. will help us out when the time comes! Sorry for the huge reply and i really hope you manage to get everything sorted man!
Bryden, I haven't been on in a while as I guess I was trying to get my head straight but thankyou so much for such a brilliant post, really put some things into perspective for me. I have been doing exactly as you suggested....putting aside any spare money (which isn't alot after everything) and using it to buy things I wanted.
I did fall off the bandwagon again and lost more, but that was around 10 days ago now so doing ok. I just can't seem to get the loss out of my head and what I could of done with this money...then I think what if I gamble again and win some or all of it back....it's hard but have to stay strong. Hope your doing ok with things....we can all beat this!
