It has been a while, a long while. But I am back and trying to climb back on the wagon.

Hi all

As my user id suggests I opened this account on here back in 2009 and I was absent I think until 2012 and again until now.

I have had a complete relapse and now need to regain control.

My OH and I sold our house in October and now live with the in-laws whilst saving for a deposit. We are pretty much there with the savings now and just looking to exchange and complete on the house we have found.

However this has meant I have had a bit of surplus funds each month and decided to try and win more money to get us out of the inlaws house quicker.

It started off well. I turned £150 into £490 on online roulette. I wanted to round it up to £500 (in hindsight I should have just added £10 of my own cash) as that £490 dwindled down to £400. Then from £400 to £300.

Annoyed with myself for losing £190 of my winnings I tried to win more.

Cheltenham week then came along and I had a flutter on the horses and won a little bit, even though I was annoyed at several horses coming second meaning I would have won a substantial amount more had they won.

My bets then became quite stupid. Things like £100 on a football team to win, of course they lost. Then £150 on a certain player to score at anytime, of course they didnt.

Then comes the grand national, I had the winner - great £180.00 back in my account. I think right shall I just lump it all on a football double and win £400 profit. I dont dare so I do a few smaller bets, none of which come in. Low and behold the double comes in, so if I had lumped on I would have been quids in.

Disappointed I decided to try and turn the remaining £150.00 into a bit of profit. I only go and lose the lot. Of course 5 reds in a row roll in on roulette (and no. 34 twice in a row!) - what a con.

So that was yesterday and now it is today. I have closed all my betting accounts. I have looked on the bank statements for past few months... £1700 staked and £1500 won. So £200 down overall so not too bad considering. But if only I had put that double on yesterday I would have been £400 up overall.

Or if I hadnt done the £250 in betting on the football the other week and just left my Grand National bet to see the outcome I would have been several hundred up too.

The benefit of hindsight ay? What a wonderful thing.

I have found though that the buzz of the win is no longer more powerful than the distraught feeling of losing.

Now we are nearly at our fresh start with the new house it is time to stop this foolishness and begin our new chapter clean.

I am happy to say though that despite having several thousands at my finger tips with the deposit I didnt touch that. I couldnt do that to my family.

Although looking at the statements and seeing I actually spent £1700 (not taking into account the winnings) it is a shocking amount.

No more lottery, no more scratchcards, no more bookies, no more roulette, no more blackjack, no more football bets, no more horses. No more stupidity.

Good on you. My problem was bingo, scratch cards, payday loans and slots. I ended up £6000 in debt, most of that belongs to my mum. I have cut up most of my cards. I am wanting to be positive but afraid I will fall off the wag on and it will happen all again.

Hi Danny - 'Been there, done that' - well done to you for coming back to the site and for closing your accounts. You have had a reality check at a crucial time in your life - buying a house. You certainly don't want to be on that slippery slope where you find yourself dipping into savings, or worse.

As you know from previous experience, there is a wealth of advice and support here, so keep at it - you can do it.

Joanna

Congratulations on getting yourself back here x

I'm in a similar situation. I'm back here for about the 3rd or 4th time over the years after a very big slip at the weekend.

I wish you all the best in your recovery.

We can do it!
