Hi all,

So today is day one (again!) I had an issue with gambling a year ago and racked up a lot of debt, mainly from online games. After self excluding myself I was doing really well and hadn’t gambled for a year.... then two weeks ago I saw an add on Facebook for a ‘raffle’ type website, temptation got the better of me and I played. Once I had been on that one website more and more raffle websites came up advertising on my Facebook feed, over the past couple of weeks I’ve become obsessed and have gambled much more than I can afford to lose. I need to stop now before I get myself in serious financial trouble.

I wish these type of sites were included in gamstop, they are seriously addictive. They don’t even have any sort of self exclusion, time outs or limits,  must be a loop hole in gambling legislation.

So here goes, day one, wish me luck.

Dear @helptostop

Thank you for posting on the forum and for sharing your experience with playing on 'raffle' style websites.

We have heard from others who get in touch about how these sites often pop up on social media and how they sometimes seem unregulated. These sites can actually be unlawful.

There are ways of restricting what you see when on social media as you can set preferences on social media sites to avoid further triggers.

Be Gamble Aware have information on this at  - https://www.begambleaware.org/safer-gambling/social-media/ which will help you to adjust your preferences on a number of platforms.

Please also remember that you can talk to one of our Advisers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are always here to give support and advice.

Kind regards

Jo

Hiya helptostop

I know what websites your talking about and as said above most of these are illegal as it's people doing it from there own home, it can be to win money or goods or a pile off scratch cards they scratch off infront off you if you win. I can see how easy it is to get addicted to this. It's so worrying as how do you stop when it's not regulated that's something I would like to know the answer too,  I'm going to go for now and see what I can find out
