hi all, this is my story...

Started matched betting in summer 2018 and in the next year made XXX which was great during a period that my wife was on maternity leave.

Casino then got the best of me and I started playing the goonies slot and made XXX quickly! I then got greedy and ended up losing XXX in one afternoon trying to chase loses on blackjack.

I came to my senses and stopped and managed to Christmas where I started back on the goonies slot. Initially after being up, I lost another XXX.

Stopped again before taking up matched betting again in June this year, made XXX in June before finding the goonies slot in July. Over the first 15 days I made XXX determined to make up the loses from a year ago. Every time I lost on goonies I made up the loses on blackjack - I thought I had the perfect formula.

Then yesterday with only XXX to go to make up the loses from a year ago, I lost XXX on blackjack. It destroyed me and I am so cross with myself.

i am trying to put things in perspective, two years later, I am still up from where I started and I have now self excluded from all sites.

The pain is still raw, I could have spent the money on so many nice things but I guess overall I’m not down and now I am free.

Strangely today, despite the inner hate Of myself I feel free and have been better company around people knowing I don’t have the risk of losing everything on my shoulders

thanks for listening...

Smith1195,

Welcome to the GamCare Forum. Thank you for sharing your story with us.

It sounds like you have had many ups and down in recent years. I am glad to hear you have self excluded and this has helped your relationships.

You don't mention if you have contacted the helpline or not but it sounds like it could be useful for you to speak to one of our advisers. They are available 24/7 and can support and advise you through this. To do this you could use our Livechat option or call our HelpLine on 0808 8020 133.

For now, keep posting and take care.

Hiya smith1195

We all think we've got the winning formula that way when you lose you up the stakes and chase the loss as you've done it so many times before and got it back. But this time it all goes nowhere to get more thinking should I chase well you know the answer TO that plus you've put things in place in case you did relapse. That's all any off us can do my friend and what you've lost is gone in the past not easy to forget but what's the outcome off chasing, ending up worse than you are at the moment. I like what you say it's not left you in debt and believe you me that's rare on here. Just look to the future gamble free and if you can learn this from your loss think off all the money you'll save in the year's to come. Good luck and take it one day at a time
