So, after a simple search on google addiction is a chronic neuropsychological disorder characterised by an inability to control the use of a substance or the engagement in a behaviour, despite harmful consequences; it alters the brain’s reward, motivation, and impulse-control systems, leading to compulsive cravings and continued engagement. Since 2nd of May 2025 I managed to be able to control it and my question is I am still an addict? If the answer is yes then what is the logic behind it if I don’t gamble at all?
Hi DJ
Huge question and I guess the answer is how you identify yourself. Some people in meetings don't say a compulsive gambler as im sure you know. Some say gambler in recovery. For me, my addiction will only be locked up under arrest. I still have the key to open the box so I'm always going to be an addict just not active at the momentÂ
@lp5vut869c That's an interesting take. For the sake of mental health would it not be more empowering to say I am no longer an addict? I'm just interested in the psychology of it all. I know the brain has plasticity so it can change and adapt but I'm wondering if you develop this mindset whether it eventually goes away or like you say, the temptation is there but you have the key to keep it controlled?
Interesting question do u mean controlling it by still actively gambling or u have choosen not to gamble? If your an addict their no such thing as controlled gambling i cant even play games where their a posibility i could win a prize has i have relapsed due to this other will argue they can still do the lottery however for me personally even the word bet is a trigger so i simply dont get myself involved i even avoid any products with prize to be won as i wont take part i know what gambling cost me so why would i put myself in such a situation where their even a small risk it would turn my life upside down Â
@tazman No, I am not gambling at all and I am gamble free since 2nd of May 2025.
No the answer is , you are not an addict anything but that don’t call urself that just go at ur own pace at quittingÂ
